I really hope the acupuncture helps you, OMB. Also good luck with the CRS tomorrow.
:smilyhug:

I hope the collagen supplements help. They can't hurt. The collagen in your skin has to be made by your own cells and secreted into place - supplemental collagen can't be placed in your skin. But collagen has a LOT of a particular amino acid, proline, which is very important for its structure. Collagen supplements should increase your proline intake.

Two other things are very important for collagen synthesis. There's an enzyme that modifies collagen to give it it's correct structure, and that enzyme requires vitamin C and iron. So make sure you get plenty of both those things.

(You probably know that scurvy is a breakdown of the skin, and inability to heal wounds. It is caused by inability to synthesise collagen, due to vitamin C deficiency).

So anyway, take your supplements and take care of yourself!

[edit - I don't mean you have scurvy. I'm just giving an extreme example of collagen loss, and its well-known cause]
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Very interesting OMB. Glad to hear that you may have some new insight into this. Sorry to hear it is causing you more pain though. Unfortunately, we often have to get worse before getting better :(

I, too have been told I have friable skin around my bumhole. Where was your skin referred to as friable? What is EDS? Do you know why she advised no peanut butter? I have recently started eating a lot of nut butters as I have lost quite a bit of weight and would like some back!

I would think that vitamin c should help as well as it helps with collagen synthesis. I use Ester C as it is more gentle on the stomach.

Best wishes for a successful and painfree visit to your CRS tomorrow!

Thanks scientist.... That's a very interesting piece of info. I have been taking a high dose of vitamin c since before my flap surgery, knowing how long I take to heal things normally.
Lol...... Nope... No scurvy me hearty!!

Msimon.... She said all my skin looked friable.... She didn't look at my butt hole! She said no peanut butter as peanuts can trigger allergies. Nuts are very good for you though, so she wanted me to eat them in some form.
EDS is Ehlers Danlos syndrome. It goes with hypermobility syndrome. I have always been very bendy, and my skin is very thin and papery. I am in the process of being diagnosed for it, so I was taken aback when she said it within two minutes of meeting me! Lol

Lol! I didn't mean to imply that she looked 'down there'.

That is very interesting that this lady sounds very insightful. Hopefully she can steer you in the right direction.

I should have looked up EDS - I had never heard of it before. Now I know what it is, it sounds as though it could be the basis for your problems with AF and the flap surgery not healing.
Are they doing genetic tests to diagnose the EDS?
I'm very impressed with your acupuncturist. She sounds like a great person to have helping you.

Well the outcome of my appointment is that everything has healed so he says it is neuropathic nerve pain. Because I have been suffering for so long my nerves are now just firing off pain signals all the time.
He is getting a colleague who specialises in this sort of pain to see me as soon as they can organise something. He uses electrical stimulation as therapy. If that doesn't work he can do nerve block injection.... Then if that doesn't work there is an implant device that interrupts the pain signals.
So.... I still have a long way to go... But I can see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I believe that I am experiencing neuropathic pain too and even though it's great that all is healed (which is what my doctor also said) it still can be very painful! My PT has been using electrical therapy (I'm fairly certain that is what it is: these patches she puts in certain places that send electric pulses and vibrate) before each session and I think it is helping. Once when I wasn't burning she started this and put one of the sensors on my inner thigh under but cheek, and after a few minutes I had to tell her to stop because the burning was so intense. So I figure there must be something to it. If that makes any sense at all, lol
I hope you get a lot of relief soon!
