Can anal fissure recur after LIS?

Postby stephencurious » 24 Mar 2015, 10:49

And if diarrhea/constipation occurs a couple of weeks after LIS, can it cause the fissure to retear again?

Thanks in advance!

Yes it can. LIS will not prevent fissures. It just helps heal them up faster.

I am about 5 weeks post lis and today my fissure pain has returned. Although it's a little less it feels pretty much the same. Is there a chance this will heal in it's own?

Mr CRS told me that if I ever got another fissure, it should heal up much more quickly after LIS.

I was told the same as Chacha. Unfortunately, LIS doesn't prevent new fissures from forming but it should prevent them from becoming chronic. Based on what I have read on here it seems that retears, especially early on, are common as the skin will be delicate for quite some time. It really doesn't mean that the overall prognosis isn't going to be good. I think for the first 6 months to even a year, retears are common. Hang in there Lincoln. It will get better again.

Msimon thank you so much how are you feeling? I cant thank you enough for sending this. I have been in tears today very emotional its such an upsetting and painful thing and to think I was feeling great and now this. Just scared me. What you are saying makes sense and the more I read since the resting pressure has been lowered by the LIS surgery I had if I do retear it shouldnt last long. I need to baby it back to health I guess and really stick to my diet. Looks like there will be ups and downs like any recovery. I wish you all the best and again thank you again for being there for me.

You are very welcome. Are you in a lot of pain? If so, do you have any of the fissure ointments? I still have to use my nifedipine as I am still healing and have spasms. Do you know what caused you to retear?

Yes I have all three ointments still. Rectiv and nifedipine and another med compounded. Should I use a little? I also have a otc ointment called calmoseptine the crs have me. The tear was from a bowel movement that I rushed while I was out of my house. Ugh.. I called crs and they said to wait a week etc before coming in for another recheck basically they said what you said. It's sore and stinging but not as bad as original fissure pain.

If you think you may be having spasms (and even of not maybe) you could use one of the muscle relaxing ointments. It certainly wouldn't do any harm, as long as you are just putting it externally. I've never used calmoseptine as I think it has menthol in it and that scared me. It wouldn't help heal you but perhaps distract you from the pain. I would also try some heat application whether in a bath or from a heating pad. Anything you can do to increase blood flow will speed healing.

Are your BMs soft?
