Losing natural moisture

Postby sotiredofthis » 18 Jul 2015, 18:25

Do you think you can loose the ability to produce your own natural oils in the anal area from using so many creams, ointments, etc for so long?

Just wondering as I always feel irritated and kind of dry after dealing with this for almost 3 years!

Thanks!

I use Vaseline on the exterior if I feel it is somewhat dry. Otherwise, I use only water.

I'd advise not using soap, which can be very drying. I don't know if using ointments can cause you not to make your own oils. It's possible that the barrier effect of creams is affecting your skin. Can you give the creams up for a while?
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Thanks! I'd love to give up the creams but I've had a re-tear 14 months post LIS. I used my nitro/Vaseline ointment and the horrific pain with bm went away after 5 days but now I'm so irritated there. I've had this burning pain since LIS when sitting. It's worse since the tear though.

I'm just so tired of all this. It's been 3 years. Enough is enough.

msimon, I haven't been evaluated for that. My CRS thought I was just having nerve pain but I'm wondering about that. How do I go about getting that evaluation? What kind of doctor does that?

You would seek out a physiotherapist that specializes in pelvic pain (unless your city has a pelvic pain clinic-then it might be a Doctor). Sadly, Doctors seem to know very little about muscle pain, most of the time anyway. Your family Doctor may have resources, otherwise an internet search or phonebook may help...

I don't think that would be a problem. The anus is naturally very dry. The idea of a soft stool is that it acts as it's own lubricant when passing through. I don't think you could really lose moisture from there since there isn't really naturally occuring moisture to lose. I use coconut oil after and sometimes between BM. I also occassionally use vaseline along with whatever cream i've been given from the rectal surgeon.

doctors say that there is no any "natural lubrication" inside but after washing inside my anus (by using a shower hose) after BM for 1+ years I feel like it's drier now down there...
