How to keep clean? Please advise

Postby hopefulbutt » 23 Jan 2014, 12:18

Any advice on this? I have stitches and I'm not sure how to keep it super clean, I mean it is poo. It freaks me out to look at the area. After I went I gently showered off with my movable shower head and I took a bath but still I'm scared there may be poo stuck in the incision area even though it only comes away clean when I dab the area? Obviously I don't want to rub or scrub the site as it is super sensitive. Please help! I want to avoid infection at all costs

Do you have a Sitz Bath? One of the most useful purchases I made for keeping the area clean. Bought mine at Rite Aid (USA) which I have found is the best one.

Savaici I don't have one. I could maybe send my hubby to get one this weekend. How are they different from a bath? I've never seen one before

Take a look here
http://fistulasupport.wordpress.com/sitz-bath/

You may want to clean yourself after every BM with plain warm water.

I have a squirt bottle from my c - section delivery which I use instead of shower head and a ditz bath. You can order it from amazon or online shopping from any medical shop.

I'm same if I look it exists if I don't it's just a painful area .

I just use wet wipes and shower head
I'm almost fanatical about preventing infection as that would mean
Going to gp again someing I plan to never do again if I can help it .

you could get something called clavinol barrier spray It does what it says on the tin and stops any outside matter infecting open wounds .
Maybe ask for prescription or buy ?

Most CRSs recommend using a Sitz Bath after having fistula surgery, and soaking for 20 minutes. I did a search on the Internet for Sitz Bath and fistula and it appeared in just about all suggestions. Plain water.

Hi Brians, definitely sitzbaths. Put some antiseptic in it, I do potassium permanganate, but Epson salt works too. Do it not only after BM, but 2 or 3 more times a day. Put a gauze pad between the cheeks and change them several times during the day. That should be enough.

Can't get sitz baths in UK ,
I mentioned them to nurses and not one knew about them or recommended using such a thing ,
That said some of the nurses I've seen didn't know what a seton was either .
