Fissure ruining my life

Postby Minniemouse » 26 Jan 2016, 16:24

Hi all,
I am a 20-something year old female with a chronic fissure. Back in November I had Botox and skin tags removed under general anaesthetic. I have since seen an improvement in that I no longer feel excruciating pain during BM and significantly less bleeding. My main issue is that a few hours after a BM I am in agony with a throbbing pain, not relieved by any pain killers or warm baths etc. My stools are soft, I drink plenty of water every day however I still struggle to get the softest of stools out without straining slightly.

This is truly ruining my life and my maternity leave that I should be enjoying with my baby.

Please help :(

Hi and welcome! What a pain that you are dealing with this and a baby, that is tough. Have you been to a gp or specialist and got the fissure creams ( gtn or diltiazem) these relax the muscles in there and hopefully allow some healing to take place. Also make sure you are drinking lots of water, especially if breastfeeding, as this can help soften stools. I am sure others will chime in with ideas too x

Minniemouse --

:wel:

You are in good company here. So sorry to hear you are suffering with this horrible ailment.

Good to hear you have taken some steps to deal with your issue and are drinking plenty of water...other strategies to deal with pain (some may be tough since you are also taking care of a new baby)

-Sitz bath in warm water after bm (helps keep area clean and also relaxes the muscles)
-fissure cream (diltiazem, nifedipine, nitro) 2-3x a day
-sit on some sort of heating pad or hot water bottle as much as you can to help soothe the area and promote blood flow
-any chance you can get to a swimming pool with your little one and simply wade in the water?
-ibuprofen when you go to the loo...perhaps getting in front of the spasm and pain might help?
-perhaps using some sort of softener if you are straining at all when you go -- miralax seems to be the softener of choice among the members here.

I hope some of this helps....congratulations on your new little one!!

All best - Canadabum

Oh I feel for you! I too am in the same predicament. It's been 5 months since i had my baby and 80% of this time I have been in excruciating pain! It's so debilitating, the past week it has been so incredibly hard to look after my baby and lead a normal life. I am yet to see a surgeon, I have an appointment next Thursday.

I have all the same symptoms you described.

I'm just wondering if you have spoken to your Dr. Post op? If so what did they say the cause of pain is from?

My little one is 5 months too! It's so hard looking after her all day when all you want to do is lie down, you have my complete sympathy! When I saw the dr 8 weeks post op things were very positive and I believed it to be healing as no bleeding an significantly less pain, he looked and said it was indeed healing but come back in 6 weeks. Since then its gone downhill

I struggle to understand why I'm in so much pain after but no bleeding or pain when I have a BM?? Anyone have any ideas!?

Thanks for the replies, shocking to hear just how many people have to deal with this.

Oh wow, what a coincidence! Thankfully our little ones aren't on the move just yet as I imagine that would make life even harder.

Do you think perhaps it is scar tissue causing the pain? I have been told Vitamin E and Vitamin C are good for healing the body internally... These may help?

I do hope you get better.
