How long until you could sit again?

Postby Pain_Connoisseur » 09 Apr 2016, 04:45

With your anal fissure... when were you able to fully sit up right again? How long did it take?

Did you need treatment or surgery before you were able to?

How long until you were able to sit up right in a car again?

Were there any activities that caused spasming or a retear that did not involve a bowel movement? Such as cleaning, moving anything, intercourse, sitting, bending, etc...

I've read this takes a very long time to heal due to the location of the injury... I'm just trying to gauge where I am at in the healing process, if I am healing at all. Since the spasms began in February 2nd, I've only been able to sit up for short periods of time, on my bed only, since last Tuesday March 29th (bad for my back). Is this normal? Is this progress? I've seen cat turds wider than mine, lol.

Moving anything that requires even just a little bit of lower body strength caused a deep agonizing tear on my left fissure...two days ago... Plus walking too much (In my case this is very little). Sitting in a moving car at all causes the spasming. I prefer the tearing sensation over that... intercourse is still risky to attempt... it does not come without during or after consequences :x

I hope all of you are seeing better days. :helmet:

I would recommend seeing your doctor.

Man, I really feel alone now... Maybe it is my fibromyalgia making everything 10 times worse. Thanks for letting me know that this isn't the standard for an anal fissure/tight sphincter. My gastroenterologist said I had a tight sphincter, he didn't give it a medicalized name. The only medial term that I have encountered through online was anal stenosis.

"Anal stenosis is a narrowing of the anal canal. Long-term inflammation in the rectum sometimes causes scarring. Repeated ulceration and healing can also result in scar tissue, as can surgical procedures for hemorrhoids, skin tags, anal dilation, and sphincterectomy. Scar tissue is not as flexible as healthy tissue, and the gradual build-up can narrow and constrict the rectal or anal canal, resulting in a rectal or anal narrowing, or stricture (also called stenosis).

For most people, rectal strictures are caused by one or a combination of these factors: constipation or straining to have a bowel movement, anal or rectal fissures (tears), trauma, weak blood vessels, irritation from constant diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, or rectal infection.

Sometimes the anal stricture develops very gradually, so you think you are constipated rather than realizing scar tissue is blocking your stool from coming out. Straining and pushing to get the stool out can cause more tearing (and as it heals, more scar tissue) along with hemorrhoids, strained rectal and anal muscles, spasm and aggravated nerves, including the pudendal nerve.

The pudendal nerve branches like tree roots all throughout the levator ani muscles (major muscles that make up the pelvic floor) and can become trapped or aggravated. Rectal spasming (cramping) and aggravated nerves will then constrict your rectum even further."

I get pain and spasming when sitting, walking and driving as well (driving is the worst because of all the bumping *shudder*). I too thought it was what everyone experienced, especially when the tear was a very recent thing, but I really don't know. I too would recommend seeing your doctor and asking them if what you are experiencing is "normal" and if you are healing - they may be able to give you some tips in speeding up the healing process. (I'm seeing my CRS in two weeks and will also be asking the same questions).

Dont worry thats normal. The first time I got a fissure I couldnt sit, stand or drive either. Took a few weeks for things to get better for me.

We all know that fissures can be in so many different places on or in the anus, but most people's fissures are triggered by a bowel movement and the pain occurs during the movement itself, and for many hours afterward. After that though, most people's fissures quiet down again until the next movement. I suspect that the three of you above, probably have fissures that are actually triggered by sitting down, driving, etc. because your fissure is in a place that causes it to tear open from those actions. My heart goes out to all those suffering, but maybe the fact that you go into spasm without even defecating, makes it even worse.

I can sit IF I put a thick, soft pillow on the surface where I am sitting. I find I have to sleep on my stomach and it hurts like hell when I roll over or stand up.

My biggest help for all this so far has been plain old ibuprofen. Dulls the pain and reduces the inflammation. Never works for very long though so I basically just use it when the pain gets absolutely unbearable.

Sorry you have to go through this nightmare my friend. I really hope you see a gastro specialist soon enough and inform us on his finding and advice. You cant go on ibuprofen for the rest of your life.
