Great write up on the physiology of fissures

Found this article on fissures by a proctologist, very informative and interesting.

Interestingly, he says that large soft stools are better than watery ones, because they stretch the sphincter muscles, causing them to relax and increase blood flow. What are your experiences with this?

Ooh that's really interesting I had been wondering the past couple of days why my formed BMs hurt less than my watery ones...actually makes sense thanx for that info

I read this website too . I agree with part of it. If it's too bulky it can hurt too. Formed, soft and small quantity with complete voiding is best. I think both soluble and insoluble fiber are important but the balance should likely tilt much more soluble to make it soft rather than bulky and formed.
Sigh. It's a tough balance.
