So glad I found this forum. I am 33 and currently have been suffering with an anal fissure, hemorrhoids and an anal skin tag since the traumatizing forceps birth of my child a year ago. I have spent many days sad and depressed not being able to understand why as a new mom I was cursed with all of this. It took months to be able to see a specialist and he is against surgery due to chance of incontinence (apparently the way I tore while giving birth)So happy I found this forum

Hi there new mom, I have had a few anal fissure in my life and one was soon after the birth of my child when I was 27. Like you it was hard at first and lactating and breast feeding with all that pain was a challenge. I improved after I had the LIS for the second time ( 10 years after my first one). I really think there are many ways to heal from my own experience. This time it recurred and I am 40 years old and it's Botox . But the most lasting change seems to be diet and using changes in my diet helps my BM stay soft. I use mostly fruit/ soups like lentil and peas for soluble fiber and occasional insoluble fiber like brown rice or quinoa . I think it take a lot of life style changes but pain becomes manageable if BM is soft. I drink lots of water and also oil ( coconut oil) 1 tsp twice a day. Do u use miralax? That and colace along with magnesium have helped manage the pain.
Hang in there - definitely better days to come. But I understand you pain as it needs so much patience.

Thank you so much for responding, I feel very alone often and not many ppl know and those that do don't fully understand. Nor was I aware that pregnancy/forceps could have such affects! I drink a ton of water but I'm also still breastfeeding. I am on nitro cream and taking Restoralax (Canadian version of miralax I think) in the mornings. I try not to strain and am now focusing more on what I eat. I have never had these issues before and with a baby I'm feeling very overwhelmed. I spend so much of my time suffering because needs so much of my attention.

Yes the biggest change in my life when these things hit me is to turn the focus on me again. I used to get the kids and their lunch ready before school for 1 hour and get myself together for work in 10 minutes flat. Now the family's morning centers around my BM. If it goes well I pitch in - otherwise to each their own!! The kids have learned to pack their own lunch and now they definitely make allowance for my painful days. It's a reset button for all of us and definitely a reset for the way I live my life. Simple things matter - I walk around with my water bottle everywhere . I have also told most people who I work with about my embarrassing butt problem. My close friends know. I don't bug them with details but them knowing helps me slow down on my bad days. People may grin at first but then they understand - they have to! It's ok to slow down and take your time do things at your pace. I wake up an hour before to help my morning routine. Find what works and forgive yourself. It's natural to need more time to do everything. An inner calm is key to healing from many things. And keep believing it will be better. One mom here wrote how she visualized her baby smiling when she has her BM and it helps her relax. That was moving. I have settled in fields of tulips -fields of them and the vast ocean and its waves to calm me down :) whatever makes you happy! Remind yourself u will be better
Hugs HTD
