Wiping too hard or too much

Postby kikaida » 21 Oct 2016, 21:01

Do you you think that wiping too hard or too much can cause superficial anal fissures? According to my doctor and CRS they both feel that my fissures could be caused by over wiping. What do you think?

Never wipe!! Just dab, then wash or dab with damp loo paper. Well known in the AF community. :sunny:

I use a portable bidet (about $10 on Amazon) and just dry gently with TP.

Yes, especially if you use toilet paper. They're called micro-abrasions. You might want to try flushable wet wipes, then dab gently with toilet paper to ensure that the area is dry. In addition, a portable bidet works well, though again, you do have to take extra care to dab dry the delicate tissues (or use a hair dryer set on cool). If you're traveling and you have to bring a portable bidet with you, then look at the one by TOTO called a "Portable Washlet."

I've tried wipes, and they are more comfortable for my body but even the flushable ones are terrible for plumbing, and clog my toilet. So, again, I recommend the bidet.

Wipes are not nearly as soft as sopping wet toilet paper and are much more expensive. I always used wet toilet paper when I had my fissure. And yes, they are very bad for the plumbing too, despite their claims to the contrary.

The trouble I always have with toilet paper is that it falls apart when you make it wet. The best I can do is get a big clump of it and quickly splash some hot water on it a couple of times, but even that can make it too wet - it absorbs the water very effectively. Any tips?

I used to use Cottonelle with Aloe and E. Very soothing and not bad when you dampen it. I also dab with swabs that I wet. Expensive, but helped me. And my Sitz Bath. (I am in the US).

If you mean Cottonelle wet wipes, I read that all wet wipes are pretty bad for the sewerage system. Also they don't seem to ship to the UK.

I run water over Puffs facial tissue and dab to clean, then dab with toilet paper to dry. The sitz baths help to clean, too.

I used to use the shower head to clean down there at the end of every shower. However, I'm scared to do that now because on the first day of my fissure it really stung when the water hit it. I'm afraid of bidets for that reason.

I also used to use the wet wipes, but they seem more abrasive to me (both surface and chemicals in them). Maybe I'm wrong about that.
8/09 - 12/10: fissure, cured by LIS/fissurectomy
1/17 - present: fissure/hemms, healed but pain remained, 3 CRSs (nifedipine, infrared coag) were no help, cold dilating >= 1" helped but still have pain when sitting
