After lay open Operation

Postby Paul1508 » 21 Oct 2016, 15:07

Hi all

I'm a male 50 years old and have had the lay open operation 10 days ago, before the operation I was getting a yellow colour discharge, now after the operation I'm getting this discharge again but only after go to toilet. Sometimes there is a bit of light colour blood. I do have stitches internally.

Does this sound ok or should I go back to the doctor, I have read that there may be some discharge for up to 4 weeks.

Thanks

Hi Paul,
Is this for a fistula? Presuming it is, it could be discharge from the healing process, but if you have any concerns I would contact your Surgeon. I had an abscess laid open and it took a couple of months to heal up. During that time it was leaking fluid almost every day. You basically have an open wound that is healing from the inside out. The key thing for me was to keep the area as clean as possible, by showering after bowel movements.
Best of luck
