So much pain!

Postby GilmoreGirl » 31 Oct 2016, 07:46

Hi all,

I just healed from a nasty anal fissure, but I am still in constant pain.
After a visit to a gp last Friday, I was told the fissure had healed nicely, but that I had an external hemorrhoid that was causing the continued burning pain. The hemorrhoid is not hugely swollen, but there is a hard painful pea sized lump at the base of it. Due to this and the intense pain, I'm assuming my hemorrhoid is thrombosed, and likely has been for several weeks.

The doctor only prescribed anusol HC (only 0.5% hydrocortisone) and sits baths and ice (which I was already doing). She said it would go away on its own.

I have been in constant pain for a month, and I am petrified that my only option for relief is surgery - and I've heard the recovery is terrible.

Any advice on whether this will resolve itself on its own? How long did it take to heal if it did?

Thanks all.

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear - I'm so desperate at this point. I've heard some felt relief after their hem burst, is there any way to encourage this to happen?

I really think that you need to see a specialist (colorectal surgeon).

I have had two thrombosed hemmies and wanted to die because the pain was so extreme, and when my surgeon first saw it, told me that a thrombosed hemmie lasted for about two weeks and that I would have unbearable pain from about day 7 to 10 and then it would subside (I was at about the 4 day mark at that point, and couldn't believe what he told me). He said that had I been there a day earlier, he could have lanced it (and that would be something that only a surgeon can do!). I know that abscesses can burst and provide some relief - maybe that's what you are talking about?

Also, many GP's misdiagnose a sentinel pile as a hemmie, so you may have one of those (your body's reaction to a fissure), and not a hemmie at all. You may also have had more than one fissure, and the second one could be like mine and be completely hidden from view by an internal hemmie. Even my surgeon never saw it before I went in for LIS surgery, but when doing a digital rectal exam, and pressing where he suspected it was, he knew immediately that I had one.

I am only telling you about my experiences, but again, you really need to see a specialist to see if your GP is right or not, and also to address the pain that you're experiencing.

Thanks chachacha.

I'm on a waiting list to see a surgeon, but otherwise I won't have an appointment for several weeks.

I think I've ruled out a sentinel pile, as the pain is radiating from the opposite side as my fissure.

What makes me think it's a hem is that there is mild relief when standing (not walking lol) or lying on my side or belly, and the pain builds after a bm and as the day goes on. There is no pain during a bm as there was with the fissure - actually it feels better when trying to have a bm...maybe because nothing is being strangulated when I'm pushing?

Did you just wait out the thrombosed hemerrhoids then? It's hard to say, but I think I've had this for up to 4 weeks, but healing could have been delayed due to the accompanying fissure - which was causing crazy spasms for about two and a half weeks.

Thanks again for your help!
