Hi

Newbie here - just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 38 year old guy who recently joined the massive pain in the butt club :)

I had an operation two weeks ago for an anal abscess. Turns out it was a fistula - the doctor put in a draining seton and told me to come back in 6 weeks for another operation 'to remove the seton'. He didn't mention any other type of surgery. From what I've been reading online, it seems wishful thinking that I will simply be having the seton removed and all will be well.

Is a draining seton always a precursor to a surgery such as a fistulotomy or is it possible to be healed with just the use of a seton ?
