Post op pain? How long?

Postby Harper05 » 21 May 2017, 14:50

this is my second LIS. I had the first one 4 months ago, and the pain never really went away. The post op pain did but I still had the fissure pain.
I am 2 days now post op and I still feel like really sore, how long does this kind of pain last? I am worried that it didn't work again....

I was very sore for two weeks then saw very rapid improvement over the third week.

From what I've read it's not uncommon for the first LIS to be unsuccessful as the surgeons are often conservative in how much they cut. BUT the second LIS has a very high success rate - hang in there!!!!

so my fissure was on my left side, he said he cut the opposite side... but why do I feel like the incision is on the left side? and more sore on the left?

When my surgeon explained the procedure to me, he said that he was going to cut on the opposite side too, but what I found out after the fact was that he meant that it was really what I would call the outside. If you picture a tube, with the fissure on the inside, my surgeon made his incision on the outside of that tube, but right outside where the fissure was, and on the same side of my body. Does that explanation make sense?

Oh, I thought that he told you that he cut the "opposite" side, like mine did.

Yes he did.
Fissure is on the left side, he cut the right side.
But the incision(I think) and pain is on the left side.

Okay, here's another visual that might work. Think of the sphincter like a life preserver on a boat (which a sphincter shape is), and then think of it hanging on a wall in your house. Picture your fissure on the surface facing into the room, perhaps at the 10 o'clock position. Then think of the "opposite" side as being right behind that section, flat up against the wall of your room, not over at the 4 o'clock position at all.
