Worth trying Botox twice?

Postby patience_and_healing » 27 Jun 2017, 09:12

I had botox on the 15th of May and it helped reduce my pain levels quite a bit but unfortunately not enough to heal the fissure completely. The CRS who did the Botox said I still have a superficial posterior fissure and a small anterior one. I've had difficulty controlling my BM consistency because of taking antibiotics for my skin. I'm fairly certain I would heal if I could get them to be consistent. The doctor didn't think that trying Botox again would fix things, but I feel it's safer than surgery. Also I get skin cysts (hidradenitis) in the perianal region that I fear would be aggravated by any surgery. Any inputs are appreciated!
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.

I personally would try Botox both two and three times before LIS but that's my personal preference. I'm only on round one of Botox and I hope it allows the fissure to heal.

Hi where can I find a list of things to ask my surgeon at my appointment coming up regarding any/all surgery options? And I want to make sure he's good at this kind of thing? Thanks

I agree Bum_UK. I think it's worth trying once more to see if it works. It costs a decent amount even after insurance and I'd have to make sure the second time is covered too.

Missy_moo you can make a separate thread to get inputs from others about this. But it's a good idea to ask the surgeon their experience in doing fissure surgery, and what kind of outcomes they've had with patients. A good surgeon should never hide their failures from the patient.

Hey there
I'm in the same boat as you, about to embark on Botox for the second time.. hoping it works. My specialist actually encouraged botox 2 - 3 times before heading down a different path. Good luck

Hi there and welcome to the forum. :) I'm sorry the first round didn't heal you completely but hopefully the second one will do it for you.

I didn't get a second Botox dose, but I'm hoping I'll heal fully anyway.
