Botox after LIS

Postby Harper05 » 31 Aug 2017, 19:27

My doctor is suggesting Botox in 2 weeks since my AF isn't healing. I'm 6 weeks post op from my 3rd LIS.
I'm also getting blood work done to check my sugar levels, etc.
My question is how painful is the Botox? He said it's not surgery just a procedure.
And what's the recovery like?
And did it help heal anyone after failed LIS?

Botox to me just felt like two quick shots. It wasn't anywhere near as painful as I thought it would be. I had some tenderness for a couple of days and then it went away. I definitely felt the sphincter loosen up from it and it helped with the pain though didn't get rid of it fully.

My CRS said that Botox doesn't actually work on the internal sphincter muscle because of the nature of the muscle tissue. It actually works on the other muscles near it. I'm not sure exactly what that meant but that's why she said it doesn't have a very high success rate.

Did you have LIS first?

My crs said 40-50 percent success rate, not promising. But I'm not having another surgery!

No I only used the usual ointments.

Have you had a colonoscopy or any other diagnostic tests done to check why the fissure isn't healing?

I had the fissure biopsied and it shows that it's just tissue, nothing more. I had blood work done last week, and will go over with my CRS tomorrow.
Our next step with probably be a colonoscopy. I had one 3 years ago, so not looking forward to another :/

There was a user on this forum who found that her fissure wasn't healing because of undiagnosed celiac disease. Giving up gluten made the fissure finally heal. I don't mean to scare you but it could be another angle to consider.
