New here and not coping with the pain

Postby Painnz » 02 Nov 2018, 00:01

Only just joined so havent filled out any details yet. 50year old female from NZ. I have had hemorrhoids before and I think I got 2 pretty decent ones, one after the other, the usual things helped, sitz baths, creams, etc. But then I got worse and thought maybe I had a fissure, it felt very much like an open wound. I got some cream off my Dr, simply cannot walk up stairs to check what it is right now.
I was using it for longer than the advised 2 weeks and everything seemed to be getting very raw, felt like my skin was thin or something, now the pain is back with a vengeance, I have buzzing, tingling, throbbing and cant poo unless I use a sitz bath, the pain is just unbearable, the hemorrhoids are still there and get bigger with a BM but they seem to be going down ok and arent giving too much trouble. I also have a very rumbly tummy, people can hear it over the TV.
The absolute worst pain has been at night, when I lie on my side it just seems to throb constantly, last night I had to resort to sleeping sitting upright so I was sitting on my bottom, I tried everything, pillows, and every cream potion I have ever read about, ice, omg dont try ice.
Today I am trying to not use anything, except some coconut oil when I have a BM then I am soaking and drying naturally, last night I was convinced I was allergic to everything from my underpants to the creams and that I had bowel cancer and was dying.
I cant even stand the thought of the Dr looking and was waiting for it to heal just a little before I took up her offer of being referred to the hospital.
Not even sure what my question is, I think I just need reassurance its normal and if anyone has any suggestions for being able to sleep, I need to sleep tonight.

You need to see your doctor and probably a colorectal specialist. I know that it's a scary thought, but you can't continue on in such pain, because that really isn't normal. Good luck. I hope that you can get some answers quickly.

I'd (politely and respectfully) push back a bit on saying that kind of pain is not "normal". FWIW, the pain you speak of is very reminiscent of what I went through when confronted with a combination of fissure and hems. This is not fun. And I, too, went through all the various scary thoughts that you are. Be comforted by the fact that the incredibly vast majority of the people with your symptoms have exactly what we all have - fissures and hems - despite the fact that the pain seems so bad it *must* be more sinister than that. That's not a reason to avoid going to see the Dr - you should go, of course. But relax - nothing you have reported sounds any different than what I went through.

I guess that we have different takes on the word "normal". To me, being in pain is not normal and a doctor should be consulted. Not "normal", has absolutely nothing to do with anything sinister or anything more than just fissures and hems.

I'm feeling a bit better. I cut out all the creams, prescribed and natural. Stopped all the stool softeners. I just ate less and mostly liquids, shakes and soups for a few days. When I had a BM I had it on the sitz bath and I am on the road to recovery. The bleeding has stopped and the terrible pain has gone, its just a bit annoying and the buzzing is irritating but I can live with that, hoping I can eventually ditch the sitz bath but right now I am too scared to.
