Hello all,

Im new here, Im a 57 year old male and have been tortured with an anal fissure for 6 months now, the pain is intence! I will be having a lateral internal sphincterotomy on December 27th, I must admit, I am a bit
nervous
about this. What can I expect from the recovery? Are

sit baths good after, should I use Epsom salts with it?
Any advice or tips would be great!

Thank you,

Keith

I hope your surgery and recovery go off smoothly! I haven't had that surgery but from reading others' posts I would recommend a good stool softener (miralax if it suits you) for several weeks to give your body a chance to heal. Sitz baths are good too, but I'm not sure If Epsom salts will cause burning.

Do you know if you're having the closed or open LIS? Recovery time for open is longer than closed because of the incision. Also make sure you have good pain relief prescribed. Eat a healthy diet and get enough sleep at night to help your body to heal.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy
