Your plan sounds sensible - stick with what works. I am also worried about long term use of medicines etc but give yourself more time and like you say in the long run get advice.

Let me know how the physio goes and also the other place if you have to go there - I'd be interested in what they say/do.

I think I'm allergic to rectogesic - it makes me so sore. I tried one small amount last week and couldn't sleep for pain. So I'm not using it at least until I've seen the specialist.

The last CRS I saw, in July last year, advised me to stop using Rectogesic - he said it could 'only make things worse'. I stopped it, and haven't noticed much real change, though possibly pain levels are slightly lower than they were.

Dmcff that's interesting. Do you why it could make things worse though? My gp said it had been great for some people. How's is your physio going is it helping?

Yes, I think Rectogesic can work for some people - it did for me, for a short time, initially. But I think it's best used for only a few weeks at a time, and definitely not for long periods the way I was using it. I'm no longer doing the physio program, and am basically just trying to get on with my life as normal, though still experiencing a fair amount of discomfort and pain, especially at night - but nothing like the levels I had to cope with a few years ago.

Dmcff sorry to hear you are still in pain. Do Doctors know why you still have pain? I see specialist a Thursday but I saw one in 2014 an I could not find source of my pain. It got mostly better for several years. I fear now pain is back they won't find anything again.

No, I've had many tests, and the doctors are unable to find a precise reason for the pain. But like I said, the levels now are a lot lower than they were three or four years ago. I kind of feel that if I can resume my life as normal - it's a pretty quiet life, and I'm nearly 74 :silent: - there's a chance that the pain will recede still further. I'm still taking the anticonvulsant pregabalin, which helps a lot, and in general life is not too bad.

I think the big thing is to try not to worry about the condition too much. After all, though it's often painful it's not life-threatening, and if you can get your mind off it for a while via music or exercise or whatever suits you it's remarkable how it can move into the background.

dmcff - I'm sorry to hear of your long term pain with no identifiable cause. I think I might be the same. I have an appointment to see a specialist but four years ago they found nothing really wrong and it may be the same again. I need to get it seen though as I've convinced myself it is possibly serious. I do hope that you will continue to improve. I have had first a 6 year gap, then a four year gap of little pain - but now it's flared right up. I'm hoping with a reassurance it is not life threatening I can do what you have and try to not let it take over my life.

It's good that you'll see a specialist, and I hope that you will get some relief - and a resolution of the problem.

What happened to me was that after numerous specialists and consultants had examined me over a period of several years they could find nothing more than a chronic inflammation of the perianal region, and were not able to state a cause of the trouble. Then I was passed from the care of CRS to physiotherapists, who it turned out in the end weren't really able to suggest much effective treatment, either. I had big hopes of the physiotherapists, but now feel rather let down. I hope your experience is better. Please let us know how you get on.

Ah that's not great. Do you think that it might be nerve related or just your brain sends out pain signals when there is no injury or the original injury is healed but your brain keeps guarding against pain ? I have had something like this with back pain. No one could find a cause for my pain but after many oesteopath and physios one physio now massages it regularly and it's now ok. But I've had terrible pain with it. I'm wondering if this is a similar thing i have but in the rectal area.

I'll keep you posted
