It's probably because alcohol dehydrates your body and that can have all sorts of effects. If I were you I'd give up the straining habit because that's going to cause hypertrophy of the sphincter muscles plus additional fun things like hemorrhoids. Deep breathing and focusing on the diaphragm while having a BM is a safer way.

8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy
