Well, the inflammation is real enough, and the CRS can see it and they have written notes about it - but they can't find a reason for it.

It's certainly a very sensitive part of the body. I'm sorry to hear of your back pain - I used to suffer from that, but since the AF (or related condition) began I haven't, or hardly at all. What you describe might be some form of fibromyalgia - have you looked into that?

How frustrating for you. You are right it is a sensitive area. I had a look at your posts (hope you don't think I am being nosy but wanted to see what your original issue was) and I see you live in kent. I also live outside Maidstone and my appointment will be at Tunbridge wells hospital. No idea if they are any good?

My physio suggested fibro but I'm not sure that fits when I've looked it up. I do have an interactive thyroid and I think some e of my issues maybe related tothat. I'm not medicated yet my gp is monitoring it.

Yes, I'm in Kent. I don't know Tunbridge Wells hospital, but have experience of Medway Maritime (mixed), and KIMS (mostly good).

I have heard of thyroid issues being associated with AF, and if you do a search on this forum you will find quite a lot of references to that.

oh interesting. I am going to mention the thyroid at my appointment, I am thinking maybe I should be on meds for the thyroid. My GP says it a matter of time and I will be. The main symptoms of a thyroid - weight gain and fatigue I don't have which is why she hasn't started meds. I have always been underweight and I don't get particularly tired no more than a part time working, busy mum anyway!
I strongly believe my constipation is thyroid related though.

KIMS is near me - I'll bear it in mind. See how I get on first.

In Kent - as in many other parts of the world, I suppose - the effectiveness of the treatment you get depends very much on which specialists you see. What I've found here is that most of the consultants, whether CRS or gastro, circulate around the hospitals in the region. So you often end up seeing the same specialist in a different hospital. I'm talking about the NHS system, of course. With private treatment you can see the specialist of your choice in a hospital of your choice, I think.

With a condition like AF it's hard to find the right specialist. My last series of consultations took me to London and St Thomas's, though I didn't really get much further forward there. It seems that if the doctors can't find and see an active fissure, they tend to give a diagnosis like Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (PFD), and call in the physiotherapists.

Yes, do keep us posted on your progress.

Yes I suspected as much! I am hoping in that case I do not see same CRS as I did four years ago at a small hospital sommerfield I think it was in maidstone. Not that he was had he was very kind but couldn't help me. I looked it up on the website and I do not think he works there!!

I am NHS at the moment anyway.

It may be pelvic floor issue I guess so maybe I may go down that route and it will help me. No-one has sent me down that route before!!

I shall keep you posted as I find the support on the forum invaluable.

Well I saw a specialist who asked a lot of questions and took a look with a proctoscope and said fissure was there but healed. Said keep stool soft, drinks lots of water and nothing I can do to treat any pain. Sent on about scar tissue.

I'm a bit disheartened as I still have pain well soreness after a bowel movement. What to do next? Not sure if GP is going to be able to suggest anything either. Is this forever?

I'm surprised the specialist said there's nothing you can do to treat any pain. Maybe you could discuss pain management with your GP? There are medications - e.g. gabapentin, pregabalin - that may help.

I think because on examination I wasn't jumping off the couch he thought wasn't significant. Trouble is as we know these things vary on day to day basis and I feel soreness even if I'm not leaping up with pain it's still there causing discomfort.

I'm reluctant to go on meds. I tried amiltriplyline for a while and it didn't help as I refused to up else above 20mg for fear of being a zombie. I am also highly sensitive many medicines. Not allergic but close to that. I'm also 43 I don't want a life of medication from now.

My physiotherapist is going to look into some contacts for me who do visceral osteopathy. She thinks it could help. I might do a search on this forum for that. Sorry to be negative. I will go back to the GP to discuss any next ideas.
