Missy moo I take magnesium citrate in tablet form. The brand is Swisse. I've also used the brand Solgar which was also great.
Abu, of course you are going to read about examples of LIS not working on a forum on the internet. People seek out forums when they need help but this doesn't mean that the surgery in general isn't successful. There are many studies out there showing that LIS has a success rate of around 95% so I am guessing that the 5% are the ones sharing their unsuccessful stories. I spoke to two highly experienced and top-rated CRSs about LIS and both told me that they'd never seen permanent incontinence in their patients. They've been doing this surgery for over 20 years. I can choose to listen to one person on the internet who is afraid of LIS for his/her own reasons or I can choose to listen to specialists who've spent years and years dealing with and treating colorectal pathologies. I choose the latter.
You ask about people who've had this surgery and how they are after 20 years or so. Well, it's a great question and sure, one can be curious about the long term effects of LIS. But why bring this up unless you have some solid scientific evidence to back your argument? You do realise that you've decided to bring this up in my LIS thread which I started after my surgery. It's not really appropriate or supportive in my opinion. I made this diary to document my recovery and to hopefully help alleviate stress and anxiety surrounding this pathway. Your comments are an attempt to bring that unnecessary stress back into the picture. You have your anti-LIS views, that is fine but I'd kindly ask you to share them in another section of this forum which has many different threads for that exact reason.
You say that you 'have enough experience to make recommendations for people'. Unless you are an expert in colorectal health, I don't think you have that authority. This forum is to simply share personal experiences and to try to help others if they ask for it.
So as a summary, Abu, this forum is a place for support and kindness. If you don't have anything genuinely helpful and supportive to add to this post-LIS diary then I'd very much appreciate it if you post your negative thoughts elsewhere on the forum. I am so incredibly happy that I got LIS and I’d really like to continue to enjoy and be grateful for the best and happiest weeks I’ve had in months. Cheers.
