I'm not sure if this question was for me or Abu but I'm in zero pain and discomfort and my BMs are of normal size. Usually type 4 or 5 on the bristol stool chart because I am still on stool softeners. I will wean myself off of stool softeners around 6 weeks post-op if I am fully healed by then. I feel fully healed already and I looked down there today and it also looks healed but I'm just being careful for a bit longer.

Thanks yep question was for you. They say it takes the fissure skin a year to gain full strength so if I was you I would be careful for a year, if you stop softeners do you get hard stools? I do so I'm worried about this and having to be on stool softeners for the rest of my life but then again I'm probably going to be on them for life anyway an have been already for 6 years

Before my fissure I always had normal, regular BMs every day. My usual diet had lots of fruit and veg already because I've been vegetarian/pescatarian for years and I am also really active. I only had a hard stool because I binged on cheese when I was in France and then strained which resulted in the fissure. So I imagine I will be able to go off stool softeners eventually but I don't need to rush either. I don't mind them and don't have any negative side effects from using them.

Tightbutt do you take it in capsule form?

Abu I appreciate all the advice you've given me, I'm just trying to see my options lis is an option I haven't do r lis in the last 6 years because I thought it would heal plus fear of lis surgery. I see we joined the same year that natural approach has worked for you but not for me. Are you still taking softeners? Or any magnesium? I think I'll go get some magnesium citrate in capsules much easier. I do believe all of our fissure stay around because of stress but it's hard to manage stress when you have a 5 year old and a 2 year old as a solo mum with a mortgage to pay, plus I have no support, no friends. I don't tell anyone about this fissure it's my 6 year secret that I live with everyday the fissure causes me the most stress in my life so if it's stress thats keeping the fissure here it's the fissure thats keeping the fissure here. I don't have time to do natural relaxing techniques. I do the breathing for my anxiety during the day though.

Missy moo I take magnesium citrate in tablet form. The brand is Swisse. I've also used the brand Solgar which was also great.

Abu, of course you are going to read about examples of LIS not working on a forum on the internet. People seek out forums when they need help but this doesn't mean that the surgery in general isn't successful. There are many studies out there showing that LIS has a success rate of around 95% so I am guessing that the 5% are the ones sharing their unsuccessful stories. I spoke to two highly experienced and top-rated CRSs about LIS and both told me that they'd never seen permanent incontinence in their patients. They've been doing this surgery for over 20 years. I can choose to listen to one person on the internet who is afraid of LIS for his/her own reasons or I can choose to listen to specialists who've spent years and years dealing with and treating colorectal pathologies. I choose the latter.

You ask about people who've had this surgery and how they are after 20 years or so. Well, it's a great question and sure, one can be curious about the long term effects of LIS. But why bring this up unless you have some solid scientific evidence to back your argument? You do realise that you've decided to bring this up in my LIS thread which I started after my surgery. It's not really appropriate or supportive in my opinion. I made this diary to document my recovery and to hopefully help alleviate stress and anxiety surrounding this pathway. Your comments are an attempt to bring that unnecessary stress back into the picture. You have your anti-LIS views, that is fine but I'd kindly ask you to share them in another section of this forum which has many different threads for that exact reason.

You say that you 'have enough experience to make recommendations for people'. Unless you are an expert in colorectal health, I don't think you have that authority. This forum is to simply share personal experiences and to try to help others if they ask for it.

So as a summary, Abu, this forum is a place for support and kindness. If you don't have anything genuinely helpful and supportive to add to this post-LIS diary then I'd very much appreciate it if you post your negative thoughts elsewhere on the forum. I am so incredibly happy that I got LIS and I’d really like to continue to enjoy and be grateful for the best and happiest weeks I’ve had in months. Cheers.
