Hey Jen :elmo: !!!
Yes, stay on Nitro by all means - the longer your fissure stays closed- the stronger it becomes ! Don't ease off your stool softeners yet either . If I could do it all over again I would make sure I have NO pain for 3 months at least before I would try to change anything in my "protocol" Image . Better safe than sorry, what else can I say !
I am sure you will beat this stuff soon - just be patient and persistent as you were so far Image

Oh i forgot to say i have been experimenting !!!
With fibresure on hubby !!!! Seems as if my wee man has been suffering too, I gave him the fibresure and the next day he said evacuation was great but on the third time he passed a little blood !!!
Needless to say he will not try the fibresure again. i tried to explain to him that it wasnt the fibresures fault, but he says everytime he trys something like that it goes through him quite literally Image
He is the original fissureboy as he had one when he was a young boy, his mum said it took a very long time for him to feel better ...bless
At present we are trying the drink water route which he never does, we both have a very good diet so he should be getting all he needs from that!
I want to try the fibresure but i am too scared to mess about as things have been soooo good ...............TOUCHWOOD !!!

Tabby,
I won't be going off Miralax (probably never). The idea of taking a fiber supplement is to make my fiber intake more regulated. I took the Citrucel tabs twice yesterday and had slight stomach pains and gas as a result. I reduced the amount of MIralax this AM because I don't want to get too loose. It is such a fine line. At least I have a doc with whom I can talk and have confidence in him. Just an idea--it would be great to have a GI doc as a husband. Always would have a consultant nearby!! But, of course, most of us already have husbands. If we make it another couple of months, my husband and I will have been married 38 years this July.

Tabby - I guesshere is something to the pinching after all! We can all be pinching buddies! I think it is a good sign of healing! :) My hubby also had a fissure - but only for 3 weeks and it was pretty superficial. He is now always concerned with colorectal health because of my issues. He doesn't even push anymore when he has a BM! Image
Fiss - I thought you did heal for at least 3 months??? Image Didn't you have your LIS in December/January and it just came back recently? Do you think anything besides your tight bum contribute to fissure #2? I hope your feeling ok today buddy! Image

Trying the Metamucil-like powder this afternoon. I remember I thought that there was a difference between brand-name Ritalin and the generic version when he took it years ago as a child, so there could be variations in the different types of psyllilium products (Metamucil vs. store brand types).

Hey Jen : ) - I had LIS in December and healed my fissure pretty fast considering I had a fisurectomy too. I felt better immediately after the procedure and went for internal check-up at 9 weeks (end of February) to confirm it closed - and it was ! So, I have to start counting from March- from the time my fissure was closed fully. So, I had March and almost whole April of fissure free life : ) ! Than I became VERY liberal with everything - like I did not know better that one needs a YEAR to heal fully Image . The day I got it again I was dehydrated from long day of gardening on hot weather, and was carrying heavy stuff and was not eating properly - and did not even go to poop when I felt like going - so when I went I had to deal with big somewhat dehydrated poop that needed some slight pushing and voila- there was some blood on TP : (. I thought it was just superficial and still didn't think much of it, it did not hurt or anything and I also did not panic and did not start with MOM, baths or anything Image . The rest is a history : (. So, may it be warning to all of the rest - don't assume "it is nothing" -start with fissure diet and supplements and creams immediately and stay on that for a 2-3 weeks to make sure that initial trauma does not get worse !!!!
All the best Image and thanks for asking Image

Fiss -
Thanks for sharing your story! Image Don't blame yourself. It is so easy to get off track when you feel healed. I can't believe how liberal some of these doctors are - telling me that I can be healed in 3 weeks. Come on - your right - it takes at least a year. Image
I think I may have slightly streched my fissure a few days ago. It did not bleed or anything - I just had a large BM loaded with fiber and now I have that pinching sensation we talked about. Not that I care, its not painful at all. But I have not felt this weird sensation in a month so I probably minorly damaged something. I am sure it will pass in a few days. Thats how fissures are; 2 steps forward & 1 step back!

Yes Jen , Heres too the pinching Image Touchwood !!
I think we could be in the same place Jen, I have been suffering with a cold that has left me with the cough  the night before last i had to cough and didnt lean foward to do so .....the result was that i could feel the wound/scar and the next day i had a very werid tight pinching almost verging on a little sore Image
I spent most of the day laying on my bed...relaxing Image
Today it feels much better :)
Fiss, I hope things are feeling a little better for you Image
