Losing the will….

Postby Brook2023 » 20 Aug 2023, 09:11

Been suffering with two fissures for past 2 months. Doctor initially prescribed anusol and suppositories but they had no affect but added to the burning sensation. I’ve since been back to the doctors twice and he recently prescribed Rectrogestic which I’m glad to say doesn’t give me the dreadful headaches everyone else seems to get, however after two weeks abroad and constantly in the sea which eased the pain tremendously the pain has returned and GTN seems to not make any difference and I seem to be back at square one. I take one sachet of laxido a day and ensure I drink at least 2-3 litres of water. It’s making me so down and depressed. I just want to go back to the day I was pain free :( anyone got any tips/suggestions.

You may find that creams and ointments don't work well for you - I discovered that my condition improved a lot when I stopped using them.

Thanks for the reply, what did you do just go cold Turkey? Paracetamol doesn’t even relieve any of the burning sensation of the fissure. I just can’t wait for the day I cannot feel pain anymore, it actually ruins day to day life.

Well, I stopped using the creams and ointments and concentrated on trying to control the pain instead - after a hospital stay I began to take pregabalin, first in small doses and then gradually increased the dose to 600 mg. And in a way, that was my breakthrough - the pain got less, did not go away entirely, but was manageable, and I was able to get on with my life again.

Unfortunately, the medical profession are not too keen on treating pain - there seems to be some failure of communication between doctor and patient where that's concerned. It's best to look around for any solution that's helpful - and that may exclude narcotics. Percoset is probably the most effective solution, but as in my case there are others that are possible.

I hope you find some pain control that works, and that you feel better soon.
