I think there is a tendency for these probs to run in families. My dad had similar probs, and my mother had a fissure removed over 30 years ago!!

It is probably true , although NBODY in my family had or has any butt problems and both of my husband's parents HAVE butt problems ( hemmies and fissure), and he has NONE (knock the wood , knock knock knock !!!!, mashalaaa).
Some of us are just unlucky in that respect , I guess...: (

I have learned the hard way that little seeds need to be avoided.
Raspberry seeds caused a set back after doing great for months.
I ate quite a few of them and the little seeds were not digested and they were razor sharp!!
I am now staying away from blackberries as well as they are the same kind of seeds.

If you have diverticulitis *any* seed, even the smallest, can be bad.

I have kept a track of foods that I ate just before I got fissure spasms. The biggest culprits for me were
1) Peanuts in any form. Peanut sauce in Thai Food would do it too
2) Almonds
3) Pistacheos
4) Tortilla Chips
5) White bread
6) tortillas prepared from enriched white flour (Mexican wraps tacos etc)
My problem was aggravated when I ate these in the evening or at night.
Foods that helped me
1) Chicken salads with oil and vinegar as dressings
2) Buttermilk with my dinner
3) Some amount of fat in foods
4) Eat dinner early and take a walk after the dinner.
Another thing If I picked up weights in the GYM then next morning it hurt a lot as well. I guess picking up weights puts the muscles in spasm.

Ravi,
Thanks for sharing. Interesting that #'s 4, 5, and 6 aren't really good for anyone!! The more closer a food is to natural, the better I think it is. Nuts are good to eat, but maybe not for those of us with AF.
Here are some natural ways to improve digestive health as listed in my Bottom Line Health mag:
Choose foods that you can easily digest, such as fish, brown rice and steamed vegs.
Drink an 3 oz glass of room-temp water shortly after awakening in the morning. This wakes up the GI tract, preparing you for both digestion and elimination. Repeat this step 5-10 minutes before each meal. Avoid iced beverages, including water, with meals and 15 minutes before and afterward. Some research suggests that cold beverages decrease the secretion of digestive enzymes.
Take a 15-minute walk after meals. Doing so will improve your digestion and elimination. If you can't do this after every meal, do so following the largest meal of the day.
Neve eat when you are stressed. Our bodies are not designed to simultaneously manage both stress and digestion. Studies show that just a few moments of relaxation, such as deep breathing or prayer, before a meal will improve the digestive process. Maybe we should all say a prayer of thanks for our food before eating it!!
