Sentinel Pile (Skin Tag)

Postby Miss_Michelle » 20 Jun 2007, 05:30

Hi All
I'm only new to this forum and trying to seek advice regarding a fissure which I have had for the past 5 years or so I can remember.
I was supposed to have surgery this month, but the surgeon/specialist was so abrupt with me and made me feel like he didn't want to do the surgery. He actually kinda of used the nice term of saying it really hurts. And saying that there is a chance of becoming incontinent (bowels) So I never filled out my admission form and haven't seen a doctor about it since.
I was told I have a chronic fissure and a skin tag. I am trying to eat a high fibre diet with plenty of fluid - which I do find very hard to drink a lot.The only thing I have noticed is the itching isn't as bad.
I just want to know, can a chronic fissure heal without surgery? And can I heal a skin tag also??? I will try anything I can so that I don't have to have surgery. Is there any types of tablets or herbal remedies that are good?
Thanks in advance
Miss. M

The longer, and more chronic, you fissure lasts the less likely it will heal. I suggest you go to another surgeon, then, if that is possible.
If you have had it for five years, then that is way too long. I ended my misery after seven months by having the surgery. The incontinence risks really applies to elderly and people who are really obese. The surgery can give you your life back.
Have you tried one of the BP creams yet, nefedipine or diltiazem?

Yes, I agree with Kim. You need to consult someone else! Five years is a long time to have this without treatment.
I would ask about the creams that Kim was referring to. I used diltiazem and that is what helped me along with taking 3-4 baths a day.
As for the skin tag I use aloe vera on mine and it seems to be healing and receding. But if your fissure is still there the skin tag probably won't heal as it is the "guard" on the fissure to protect it. I think we need to figure out how to get you over the fissure and then think about the skin tag.
I take extra vitamin C to help with healing and I take Aloe vera orally too.

Hi...thanks for your replies.
I was put on a course of suppositories for 3 months and they helped a lot! The fissure felt like it was on its way to healing. But as soon as i finished the course and went back to old eating habits and getting constipated it went back to its usual self. Do you think If I went on another course of the suppositories and kept up with diet it would maybe heal? Im pretty frightened about seeing the doctor about it again as I have been referred to 2 different surgeons now.

If you really believe the suppositories work, but i am not aware of any successful AF treatment regimen that uses suppositories. But something seems to have worked for you! The important thing is to stay on the diet as much as possible for about 6 months after you think you've healed.
It wouldn't hurt if you were using one of the BP creams, if you decide to try and heal on your own again...

Yes, I would agree that the compounded creams would be recommended over suppositories. Most of the suppositories I know of contain hydrocortisone which can over time cause thinning of the skin which can ultimately make it harder to heal. I would ask about diltiazem or nefedipine next appointment. And even when you start to feel better I would keep up with doing the things that you know help like your diet, water and even the baths.
