Bleed today.

Postby Del » 05 Jan 2010, 07:28

Don't know whether to feel pleased or not. Had a bleed today which is always an indicator that I am due several weeks of pain and discomfort.
However I am due to see the specialist on the 7th so am pleased that there is something for him to see! Usually when I have seen a specialist in the past they comment that apart from scarring there is little that they can see. At least I will be in the throes of an episode and perhaps finally someone can suggest a way to end this cycle. Have got to the point where I am ready to try surgery.

Hi, sorry you had a bleed. Hope your specialist can help you. As far as the LIS surgery goes don't be afraid of it. It's really a very simple procedure. It doesn't fix the fissure it just relaxes the sphincter muscle enough so that blood flow is reestablised to the fissure and it can heal. Most people who have the surgery have great results and some of us have good results, just not as good as we'd like. I had the surgery over a year ago. Although I didn't get instant relief I am still glad I had the surgery. I still have to be vigilant with my stool softeners and fiber but the area isn't as tight as it used to be and that does help. Good luck Suzy

Well I saw the specialist. He was very good and certainly seemed to understand the pain and discomfort involved.
His first suggested option is to try a mild anal dilation as he has had good success rates with this. He has assured me that there will be no problems (fingers crossed).
If this does not work he will look at an LIS. He explained he would rather do it this way as he saw cutting as a last option.
Must admit I am a bit nervous because it hurts enough just having a poop let alone having something stretching me open!!
He seemed quite surprised (but pleased) that I was asking questions and making suggestions.
The procedure is booked for this Tuesday the 12th.
