Hi
Thought I'd check in 2 months after surgery to remove skin tags.
Sadly I'm still in discomfort. I don't know if it's caused by irritation to the surgery site or is some new problem. The pain is not the same as having a fissure but it is none the less very uncomfortable and hard to treat.
Did anyone else get long standing discomfort after skin tag surgery?
I've also decided that I must have IBS. I've had periods of constipation and diarrhea for a long time that has set me back in my recovery. All the classic trigger foods have done me in at one point or another. I'm now trying to base my diet around soluble fiber.
The only problem is that there is a conflict of sorts between IBS diet and anal fissure diet. IBS can react to vegetables, fruits, etc that are the basics for treating Anal Fissure.
Has anyone else struggled with this or even mastered it?
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read or reply

Nev,
I have IBS-C which sometimes goes the other way. You can ask me anything you wish or send me a PM.

Yes - you definitely have to address your underlying cause or you will really have hard time to have fissures gone permanently, even with a LIS !
I strongly urge you to go to specialist for GI and put your IBS under control. I know that anti-depressants can and do help with IBS for example.
You mentioned that you had a fissure for 5 years Image - did you have IBS all of that time too ???
I am really sorry to hear about your suffering and useless doctors : (((. Just horrible !
PS: I had my skin tags removed but at the same time I had a LIS and 3 centennial piles removed , so it would be hard for me to distinguish where my irritation was coming from during my period of healing but I healed in about 8-12 weeks total .
You have to keep that area CLEAN, DRY and protected. Are you taking sitz-baths ??? If not- you should - 20 min-4 times a day. Than dry butt with a fen and than check for cleanliness. If all is clean apply some Vaseline to the area - NO it will not count as "not dry" - actually it will make barrier on your butt so no moisture can collect on the anus or any kind of "debris" or secretion.
I used some natural creams vitamin creams too that I mixed myself and also sometimes used herbal compresses on my butt - it all helped me heal faster than expected (KTW !!!!)

Thanks for the replies :)
I think I've got a fix on my IBS diet. Basing everything on consuming lots of soluble fibre and avoiding trigger foods.
I'll definitely try the cleaning/vaseline approach. It's been 2 months since the operation and the area is still sore :(

Re: Constipation after surgery

Hi All,
I just came on board, and right away the topic i need it.
I had my Fissurectomy with LIS this Monday (Jan 11th) and I am doing really well in terms of pain and recovery of the wounds
However, it is 3rd day in a raw I haven’t had a BM. I get the urge but when I goo I feel like tennis ball is coming out so I can’t proceed.
My diet the last 3 das is only fruits and vegetables, lot of liquids (water and juice) and few Metamucil crackers.
However, I am failing to have the BM.
I called the doctor’s office they said to take 2 tablespoons of Milk of Magnesia and still nothing. Just to mention that yesterday I took 2 pills of Colace as well and still nothing.
The last thing they suggested is a fleet enema but I need to be very careful.
Can someone suggest what I need to do in order to avoid damaging the wounds and getting rid of the content inside me?
I am really appreciating your help guys.

Another option is Bisacodyl based laxatives. These are stimulant laxatives and have been the strongest ones I've personally tried. I took two of them for my colonoscopy prep and they produced an enormous bowel movement within 2 hours, albeit one that came with stomach cramps and much more general discomfort. I wouldn't suggest using them in the general case but if you're desperate they might be worth considering.

get off the pain meds!

Postby snowfight » 19 Jan 2010, 01:55

I am 10 days post surgery... I too had severe constipation because my doctor did not tell me about the pain med side effects. I was really struggling with pain and taking 2-3 percocet a day... getting horrible constipation. the big painful poops were hurting me so badly, i was would walk with a limp for hours after a bm. I got so frustrated and upset that the surgery didn't go as well as other stories I read about. Finally researched the side effects of percocet two nights ago and decided to quit the pain meds. I've had three only slightly painful bms since then... much much much better than the previous ones where I felt like I was giving birth through my butthole. get off the meds, and you'll start to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Most pain meds (and some cough meds) constipate. That is why I don't take them!!

Hi guys,
It's me again. 10 days after the surgery and finally I am feeling really good. So little discomfort while BM that is not even noticeable.
But still I want to share what happened to me with the constipation just 2 days after the surgery.
Well, i ended up in ER. They needed to do the enema due to Baby's had as big ball of content in my colon.
I met all the gods on the Earth and widely. So I stopped taking pain meds, i continue to have a lot of sitz baths and now I am again happy. Metamucil capsules are also part of my diet 2x2 per day and a plenty of fluids especially water.
