I've had kidney stones and the pain was worse than a fissure (believe it or not), I was given morphine to control the pain, prior to that I was vomiting and screaming out it hurt that much, turned out that a stone had got stuck in my ureta (the tube leading from my kidney) and it had torn the tube slightly, scary wasn't the word!! I had to have a couple of procedures, one was called retrograde studies where they feed a tiny camera into your urethra and up into the kidney to evaluate any damage or more stones, the other procedure I had to have die injected then had special x-rays of the kidneys (pyelogram) to see if they was functioning properly, eventually I passed the stone through the normal way but this was like urinating shards of glass, overall a very very scary experience, I still have no idea why they didn't remove the stone manually instead of letting nature take it's course
