Discharge is a normal after surgery,it's the what your body does to clean out toxins and will go away in time.My last surgery for my fistula my discharge lasted about a week and a half.Had surgery for a gun shot wound yrs.ago and the discharge from that lasted two weeks.A week post-op your still in the"infection zone"as you say,one sign you have an infection is if you get a fever.Just monitor how you feel and keep the surgery site clean and you should be good.

I agree with everything Jeff said. Just keep it clean and if you notice a new bump or get a fever, etc... My husband actually looked at mine from day one of the surgery and checked every day after, that way if there were any changes, he'd know. I couldn't look, still haven't. I was a little worried because it had a nasty smell to me, but I just kept having him look and I showered and bathed often. Also checked my temp. often. Another thing is I figured the smell was all the blood, drainage, etc...(yuk) because I noticed it the day after surgery and felt like an infection most likely wouldn't have come on that quick and it did gradually get better. Now it's fine.
When is your follow up appointment? That will give you a piece of mind too. :)

Just wanted to say glad everything went well for you!
I'm now considering surgery the first week of December. I have 2 young kids and can't take this anymore.
How are you getting along with taking care of your daughter?

Hi cagirl,
Thanks you.
I would recommend the lis I cant wait to be healed to get on with things.
My hubby took 1 week off which was great I think that it is needed, the whole picking them up pputs pressure on ur bum and u can really feel it. Today he has gone bad to work biut I think I should be fine.
