Yeah, I agree Happyass, keeping it dry is good idea.. I always use my wet wipes - but dry myself completely afterwards! (I forgot to mention that bit before..)
In the first week after surgery i went to the extent of blowdrying but only for the first week.. Christina also said she did that too!!

I have had the "itch" for about a week. Mine is irresistable, to say the least. Of course, one good scratch (in private:shock: ) make it ten times worse.

I did a little research of my own and found two other helpful strategies:

talcum powder (it HELPS me!!)

Zinc Oxide ointment: Forms a moisture barrier.

Just my two cents worth...Image

Hi Guys
I think I am starting to see a pattern forming..??
After we have surgery we get the itch..
Perhaps it is a healing itch?
I kept mine clean & dry - that worked for me,
Hugh if the moisture is working for you, and the talc, then keep it up!
I know how incessantly irritating that itch can be....
... but please! Dont scratch it!!! Image

I haven't used the zinc oxide, but as a barrier, it should keep moisture out - save the "moisture" of the cream(?). It made sense to me, if moisture is the cause of the itch. Actually, on many sites, there were other causes (as ya'll could guess ) such as fecal matter, mild infections, etc.
The talcum powder really helps me, as I said.
As for it being a healing itch, boy, that's surely what I'm hoping. I drove the 60 miles for my post-op check-up today and my CRS said the fissure was healing! Whoo-hoo!

:cheer: Congratulations Hugh, that is wonderful news!!
I have not had mine inspected again for a long time, but i am convinced i am nearly healed, becasue apart from the minor itch as a BM happens - i am feeling 100%
