Thank you for the support. I went back to the doctor today and decided to get a referral myself, which I think is a good thing as it made me stand up for myself. I have a referral, and going to see someone on Friday (just as its beginning to show signs of settling again - typical!). My doc thinks its a waste of time and money but at least if I get more advice then it can't be a bad thing. May get help for dealing with my IBS aswell as it's a bowel specialist! Plus having problems with rectogesic now, it seems to irritate me every time I apply it so that will be one question to ask. Doc has also arranged some counselling, which I have asked for. Had one thing after another to deal with (having gynaecology problems and an op first), then the fissure etc. So that's a good thing, was a bit low before all this. Just kind of been brought to the surface, so have decided to deal with that too. Feel proud that I've done it!! Thanks again all, will let you know how it goes :D

That's great Sue! You really are dealing with an awful lot right now, so it's great that you are getting the attention you need. Good for you! My doc put me on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds. I was quite a mess. I'm much better now, so keep going - you will get your life back! :D

Hey all. Saw a private CRS today, was quite useful. He examined me and said I have a superficial fissure. Not sure what that means, as the last person to look said they could clearly see a fissure. I'm hoping it means it's improved, as has improved greatly this week after having 2 and a half weeks of discomfort! He said as I am still having problems he would recommend botox injections, and that I could have it done privately or wait until my NHS appointment and push for it then. So going to ring up the NHS consultant, and see if they can confirm my next appointment. So it's all positive! Hopefully the fissure will stay settled and I won't have to go down the botox route, but if I have to that's the next stage. Am alot happier about things though :D

Just found this.......
Classification of fissures
Fissures are graded as superficial or deep. A superficial fissure does not extend full thickness through the skin; a deep fissure results in exposing underlying muscle fiber. Fissures are also graded as acute or chronic. An acute fissure is less than thirty days duration; a chronic fissure is present for greater than thirty days.
That's great that you have seen a crs - hope you improve massively and dont need the botox!

Wow Sue, you've really had to jump through some hoops to get help. I really hope you get some relief! I know this is off subject, but in reading your story and what some of the other Uk and Canadian people have to say about healthcare, I am wondering if "universal healthcare" is really all that great. I live in the United States, and am fearful of the universal healthcare that we are headed for.
I had a fissurectomy and botox a week ago, and I feel so much better. It's really hard to live with the pain of a fissure. I hope things work out for you. Good luck.

The NHS have been really good with me up until now. I kind of feel like the attitude now is 'you have to live with it' for a long time before anything will be done. I was improving but now have pressure back underneath, and soreness (which is really worsened around my period time, every single month). So am enquiring about having the botox privately, was going to wait until my appointment in mid September with the NHS but needs must. Trying to find out prices and availability. Thank you. Can I ask, with the botox did you get any incontinence? May be hard for you to say though if you had the fissurectomy aswell. Hope you continue to get better :)

Hi Sue-I have had no incontinence with the botox. Even though I am on major laxitives, I still have to push pretty hard to have a BM or gas. The pushing isn't painful, but after a BM I have some discomfort and usually have to use the sitz bath. It's amazing how much better I feel, even with just having the surgery, the horrible fissure pain is gone. It was worth it, I just hope I don't rip it open and end up back where I started. I really hope things work well for you and that you can get some relief.
