Bad relapse 7 weeks post surgery.

Postby Slocombep » 11 Nov 2011, 18:10

So i had my surgery 7 weeks ago and was doing really well, i started drinking under the ok from my nurse 2 weeks ago and relapsed badly into alchoholism that i have suffered from for a few years. (I obviously feel like a complete idiot) I am clean again for 2 days and back with a counselor to stay sober. During this time though i must have really irritated surgery site, or fissure came back because i feel like i am back in spasm or like i constantly have to go to the bathroom.
Everything looks pretty normal down there and from my recollection my bowel movements have also been pretty normal. Anyone had any issues with a retear in 7th week or so, or drinking causing problems? I am worried i have caused more damage and if i could have caused permanent damage at the surgery site. I am going in for another post op on Monday.
Thanks so much I am freaking out a little. Also noticed blood in Sitz bath yesterday and am scared to go poop again :(

hi slocombep, u really shouldn't have drunk... alcohol is bad for all the good reasons. Alcohol like caffeine is dehydrating and causes harder stools. I think what you can do is stay away from alcohol and take stool softeners if needed, and take sitz baths regularly.
i had a fissure for 5mths before it finally settled down. I like drinking occasionally too, but i absolutely don't dare to touch alcohol as well as coffee until now! I don't wanna risk anything for pain!
