Surgery and IBS Attacks

Postby bherna1 » 05 Oct 2007, 22:18

I am debating getting the surgery. One thing that keeps me from getting it is IBS. I have IBS and if they cut that muscle will it give me less time to find a tolit or bathroom in time enough to control my BM? I dont want to get in a situation of not controlling my BMS. Already have that issue when an attack of IBS happens. Its like my muscles go out of control and i start sweating and in a mad dash to find the bathroom.
Any thoughts would be welcome. This is what is keeping me from getting the surgery....control of BMS during a IBS attack?
Thanks
Bernard

Bernard.
I too have IBS, and got an LIS and have no problems whatsoever. I also drink alot of fennel tea, peppermint too. seems to settle the gut.
if however, you get diarreah all the time an LIS may not be the best of ideas as it does make it harder to tell if it is gas or the squirts.
best of luck!

I can see your concern. I wonder if you could try botox to give you an idea of what the effects of an LIS might have on you.

that's a good idea lecia!
erik and bernard, it would be great if you can start a new post just about IBS and give us some perspective of it.
i would like to know how long it took for you to get a diagnosis of IBS and how long before that you were suffering with it.
can you give us some detail of the challenges of living with IBS?
what are some symptoms that people may have that would help them identifying IBS?
i know you may be able to google this on the net, but actually getting someone with IBS to share their experience would probably be better.

IBS..I have had it since 1986

Postby bherna1 » 08 Oct 2007, 20:32

I have had it since 1986. After numerous scopes the Docs decided it was IBS. Details about IBS is that it starts with onset of stress then a since of urgeny to go all the time to the bathroom. I am talking about a very intense feeling of going and not almost making it to the bathroom. It starts with bloating, gas then urgency. I have had this issue for a very long time and it is linkied to my anxiety issue. I have a specialist that deals with anxiety and he feels that it causes the issue with IBS. I had alot of stress for the past two years that constantly going to the bathroom caused tension down there then caused fisures.
Please let me know if you have any questions
