Open wound healing after fistulotomy? E-Z lubricating jelly?

Postby sitzbath » 16 Feb 2012, 22:28

Hello.
Since this is an AF forum and I haven't had a diagnosis for a fissure in years, I hope it is okay for me to post here?!
So more of my story is in my intro from a few days ago. Today I had my follow up fistulotomy/skin tag removal post surgery doc's appointment (it's been over 8 weeks). I was told that my wound was healing well from the inside out (yeah!!!), but it may still take a while longer. The doc suggested to put gauze and petroleum jelly in between my butt cheeks/ on top of my wound to prevent friction from closing my wound. When I got home I opened my goodie bag and found E-Z lubricating jelly (is that the same as petroleum jelly?) and I feel unsure whether I really want to use it.
Other posts have suggested coconut oil, which I already use on the rest of my body as my daily moisturizer, minus my ass. Does anyone have experience with that combo of fistulotomy/ skin tag removal- jelly and/or coconut oil?
Thanks!

You know IMO I would use the coconut oil, but it won't last as long as the vaseline/petroleum jelly and would need to be reapplied.
But I have no experience with this.
I've just been reading about the healing properties of virgin coconut oil.
I would think the gauze itself would be create too much friction?
Have you tried either of these yet?
Glad to hear you are healing well!!!

Hi tanya,
thanks again for your response. So far I haven't dared to apply either one onto my wound. I am scared to touch the area. The gauze with petroleum jelly is supposed to prevent abrasion from walking (hence contributing to the wound healing).
Do you know of anything to add to my sitzbath that is of healing property?
Thanks,
~S

I would say coconut oil too, but be careful if it makes it slippery!
