I will keep updating this diary as and when something changes during my LIS recovery - things are pretty much consistant at the moment. I have no pain and no fissure symptoms, the incision point is still slightly swollen and can give off a slight amount of blood if cleaned to vigourously. I still have some very minor soiling each day which is mainly post BM but this seems to be improving too (its still less than 3 weeks post surgery). Apart from that there is nothing else to report so far - My Post surgery follow up with my CRS is a week tomorrow so i will have a better idea of things then.
I am a beliver that hemorrhoids are linked to fissures, i know i had them (two) before the fissure and i think the swelling of these contributed to the fissure and its healing. I still have them now (my CRS mentioned them to me after my surgery) and if i sit on the toilet for more than a few minutes they appear regardless of whether i strain or not. LIS is meant to help with the hemorrhoids as you dont need to strain as much with BM's.
With regards to Anal Resting Pressure after LIS, I posted a thread on this recently (See below link)

Davo,
Thanks for that link. So I see the final resting pressure should be about 20% of the original. I wonder if checking the original and final resting pressure a part of the procedure.
When you say you have mild incontinence, do you mean there is some fluid leakage or literally some solids? From what i have read in your diary, I dont believe you are applying any creams, have you? to help heal the incision and to prevent infection. You're just doing a fiber diet, stool softeners, and making sure you wash after each BM.
And I appreciate your responces. Sorry for all these questions. I'm slowly getting myself ready for LIS.

Thanks Tanya,
I used to run alot a year ago and it would get sweaty and irritated back there. I wouldnt think much of it because it would feel better after a shower the next day. But now Im soo paranoid lol. It does feel better back there when things are dry but it hasnt been like that in months because Ive been trying all these diff creams and ointments.

POST LIS – Three Weeks Post LIS
**A quick update**
It’s now three weeks since my LIS procedure and I thought I would do a quick diary update in case anybody is considering LIS and following this thread for information. (Apologies to anyone looking for information on where to find the best pizza in Chicago)
So things are pretty much similar to my last update on day #12 to be honest, I still don’t have any fissure issues and to be honest I can’t really see anything of it. I have done a few inspections and all that is visible is the wound from the incision point. You may remember that this was like a swollen lump, well the swelling has reduced quite a bit however it is still not 100% and cleaning it too vigorously can result in a few spots of pinkish blood.
I still insert gauze pads each day which can be slightly annoying as they shuffle up your butt and can feel like you are wearing a thong (for information purposes I don’t wear thongs!!!). So the only discomfort I get is the feeling of wearing a thong each day!! I do have some very mild daily soiling still (probably the equivalent of two drops from a pipette at most) – this is just like a very light brown liquid (eeurrgghh!) but is hardly worth mentioning to be honest. Also its probably important to point out that if I don’t insert the gauze pad my underwear does not get soiled. It seems the gauze just soaks up the stain because of its closeness to the butt.
As for medication I still take one Movicol sachet each evening before bed (the chocolate flavour is great) and I never strain or push during BM’s.
I am bathing twice a day (morning & evening) and at lunchtimes when at work I will have a good clean up using baby wipes (obviously in the bathrooms and not in the middle of the office).
My diet has gone downhill from my strict fissure days, in fact I eat most things (apart from Steak, Pizza & Indian) and I don’t seem to have any problems doing this.
I still also drink around 2 litres of water each day and eat enough fibre as necessary (bran flakes and 2 bread rolls)
I am flying to Denmark for a long Easter break tomorrow so It will be interesting to see how things go with that. Also it is my 4 week Post surgery follow up on the 12th April so I give you a further update following that.
Happy Easter

Same back atcha, Davo! --- Aw, shucks! - you mean, you're not enjoying the "thong" experience? Now you can probably understand why most undie-thongs are not comfortable for women to wear.
In my day, the word "thong" was meant for the word, "rubber sandal" - flip flop. My mother still says "thongs" to mean flip flops, lol.
I haven't had any soiling - just still some tenderness and a bit of soreness.
Happy Easter back to you! Keep us posted. BTW, I'm still rather watching my diet. Miralax is still part of my program, too. Not going off it, anytime soon.

Hi Jax,
Resting pressure one year after LIS returns to about 80% of its original strength.
When I say mild incontinence I mean a slight fluid leakage which may slightly soil your underwear. Just a few drops of water really but not everyone gets this and i don't believe it's permanent (well I hope it isn't!).
No I am not applying any creams, I was never advised to do this - the only advice the hospital gave me was to keep everything as clean as possible meaning lots of baths and baby wipe usage!

POST LIS – DAYS #23-26
**Copenhagen Junk food fest**
So I spent the weekend in Copenhagen and decided to relax the fissure diet and test out some normally out of bound foods. However I didn’t expect things to get so out of control!!!
Day 1: The flight over there was with British Airways and in true British fashion I was served a mini English breakfast (Sausages, hash browns, bacon and beans). Lunch was in the Hard Rock cafй with the biggest club sandwich I had ever seen (chicken breast, bacon, etc and a huge portion of fries). Dinner was a more subtle affair in a Danish restaurant with scallops, beef tartare, mashed potato, side salad and half a bottle of red wine. My BM the following morning was pain free as usual and caused me no problems.
Day 2: A breakfast of scrambled eggs, breads, cheeses, ham and a pot of tea. Lunch was battered fish and chips and dinner started with a roast duck salad and the main course was a 10oz fillet steak all washed down with half a bottle of red again. Again my BM the following morning was pain free with no issues.
Day 3: Scrambled eggs & bacon on toast for breakfast, lunch was a ham and cheese baguette and dinner was a huge pulled pork sandwich with fries and three huge beers (or lager as we call It in the UK). Again my BM the following morning was pain free with no issues.
Day 4: Bran Flakes for breakfast, a tomato and mozzarella baguette at the airport and for convenience when I returned home it was time for pizza porn…. A dominos Hawaiian pizza with ham and pineapple…… blisss !!! now this is where things change a little – I momentarily felt a slight twinge during my BM and had some slight irritation for about an hour or so following this. Certainly nothing painful but more like the feeling you get if you need to give it a quick clean with a baby wipe. Also this irritation came from the incision point rather than the fissure location. This was this morning and now its lunchtime and everything is fine again.
So that was my food weekend, it all went a bit mental and over indulgent but I have craved all this stuff for over half a year now and you know what? …… It was blissful !!!!
The only real side effect I have endured is my waistline has expanded and my wallet has been emptied. Has anyone ever been to Copenhagen?? It is ridiculously expensive, for example… Fish and chips twice in a standard bar = Ј45 ($71), two Gin and tonic Waters = Ј20 ($32), two cups of coffee in Starbucks = Ј10 ($16)
Anyway it is my post-LIS follow up this Thursday so I will update you with my progress then

Davo, glad to hear things are pain free for you. I had botox just before you had your surgery. Things were going good for me until I ate half a cheesy garlic bread. Retorn fully unfortunately. Just got a question about continence. I noticed u said u have slight amount of liquid leaking, has this improved?
I'm also curios if u are able to hold in wind. It is extremely hard to me to hold in gas at the moment, I have to really clench and it usually slips out anyway, always silent though thankfully! So the botox must have relaxed things, but I have had no leakage. If u are having leakage then I presume the surgery relaxes things abit more than the botox and so wind is also an issue for you? Or I may be understanding things wrong!
I think I am going to just go for the surgery now rather than a 2nd round of botox..disapointing

Hi andy,
Half a cheesy garlic bread caused that much damage?? thats harsh!!!
I really dont understand the problem with Botox, in essence it should be excellent as it completely relaxes the sphincter and allows three months for the fissure to completely heal but in reality it just doesn't seem to be that effective.
Anyhow the leaking has slightly improved but it's still happening on a daily basis. Apparently this is something that affects about 60% of people who have LIS however it is a short term issue and tends to clear up in around 4-8 weeks time. Basically the shpincter is very weak following LIS and so after a BM it does not close tightly enough which allows a small amount of liquid to escape over the course of the day.
Wind was only a problem for me during the first few days following LIS and it was always silent. I guess things are quite a bit more relaxed down there at present but there is nothing that i cant control.
I guess wind and leakage vary from person to person and no two people are the same.
I can understand your frustration and not wanting a second round of Botox. Have you lost confidence in it?
