Sorry you are feeling so worried but you are in the right place if you need support about bottom problems!
Couple of things:
- Can I ask what your doc advised you do in terms of treating you fissures?
- what about treatment for piles?
- what suggestions did your doc make about how to deal with this?
One of the main things that I feel you should realise is that stressing over a condition down there is not going to make anything better at all, neither is pushing hard for a BM! I know that sometimes, especially if it is painful, it is tempting to push to get it over with, but it is really not worth it. When you need a BM next, take your time, take a seat and just try to relax. You could use some lubricant if you think this will help, maybe vaseline or something and just apply a little prior to a BM. Then get a magazine out or a game on your phone and sit and try to relax and let your body do the work. I know it doesn't always work that way, but purposefully pushing in order to see what your poo looks like/if there is any blood is a bad idea (because likely if you push, there will be more blood!) and you are just exacerbating the problem.
My advice is to try to stop stressing about why you have blood. You have been told by a Healthcare Professional that this is a case of fissures and piles and nothing more serious - so take that and work on it. No piles and fissures are not pleasant but there are much more serious health issues...so try to calm down. Now what you need to do is start treating yourself for both, which is why I ask what the doc has suggested?
Look at your diet - do you eat healthy? Do you eat enough fresh food/fibre or is your diet high in the naughty stuff? If yes then this is one of the first things you can do to try and help yourself and help make your BM's easier to manoeuvre down there!
Stressing badly, although I know easy to do when you see blood, is not going to help this condition at all - it will only make it worse, so try to start spoiling yourself a bit - take some long warm baths, take a long leisurely walk, snuggle up and watch your favourite film, have a cup of herbal tea and try to relax and then focus on treating the problem instead of worrying about it.
From what I know very red blood like that in the toilet water or on a tissue is a typical fissure/piles symptom - I know it looks horrible and is worrying but you know why it is there - so focus on treating the cause now.
There is lots of support here for you if you need it. Chin up

Can I ask what your doc advised you do in terms of treating you fissures?

Curtainly, she told me that i am fine and initially didn't recommend any treatment but i asked if i could have something as the sight of blood is making my anxiety go through the roof! so she has given me some pills which need to go erm... down there... which i pray will stop the bleeding.
what about treatment for piles?

I have had piles for a very, very long time she didn't mention anything regarding treatment.
what suggestions did your doc make about how to deal with this?

she just tried to reassure me that she had no worrys about it being serious what so ever she saw many fissures and my piles weren't looking too great either. i am a health anxiety sufferer though so its very hard for me to take this in even when im told by a doctor.

I totally agree, i pushed before because i just wanted to see a clear BM but instead i got just blood which made me ten times worse! I have had very sharp painful BM's before in the past but recently there has been no pain just blood.
When you need a BM next, take your time, take a seat and just try to relax. You could use some lubricant if you think this will help, maybe vaseline or something and just apply a little prior to a BM.

Isn't it a bad thing for piles to sit there for too long? but then i guess its a bad thing to rush things along (which i must admit i do...) We can't win Image

Totally right, I didn't see more blood when i did but i saw the same amount as before but it was just blood as i didn't actually need a BM... stupid move on my part!! i wont do it again!

My diet is actually quite bad... i eat alot of bread daily and mostly pizza's and curry's for dinner... i dont eat much but luckily i love salad so i think im going to start eating ALOT more greens. any other advice on this would be good as im useless at what i should eat etc as you can probably tell.

Curtainly not easy especially when you suffer from an anxiety disorder but i know you are right! Warm baths will stop the bleeding wont it??

it is always very red both in the toilet and on the toilet tissue which is a good sign.
whats the fastest way i can stop the blood as thats the main issue right now.
thank you for your reply it means alot and you've helped me put my mind at ease. thank you it really does mean alot to me.

Out of interest - what pills has she given you? Suppositories right?
I am not sure about sitting for too long re: piles, but if that is the case then you are right, it is a catch 22, but I think the point with piles and fissures is probably not to strain or push too much and not to rush so if it was me, I would focus on that.
The diet is a major point in my case, changing my diet so far has had huge noticeable almost immediate impact on my BM's. There are some good suggestions in the diet section of the forum here and I am currently trying to get everyone to post their fissure friendly recipes in a post I made in there. Give it a google too, you want to aim to try and make your BM's like the consistency of toothpaste. Image
Helping me so far is -
- Lots of fresh fruit and veg every day
- Fresh fruit juice
- Lots of water
- Cut out things like heavy carbs, bread, pasta, dough, potatoes for a while and instead have some wholemeal stuff in moderation
- Cut out fatty and fried foods (oh and spicy, ouch), red meat, sharp foods like nuts and crisps etc
- Cut out the booze and fizzy pop!
- If you do eat any of the above, do so in careful moderation and chew lots (I have been cutting out all though)
- The jury for me is still out on how much fibre is healthy but from what I know the focus is to have more soluble fibre than insoluble fibre.
- Rectogesic ( a cream from the doc that is applied twice a day just inside your bum ) has been helpful though have had headaches so am now trying something similar called diltiazem. Maybe you could ask your GP about these, maybe this is an option for you if you are concerned?
- Stool softener such as Movicol or Lactulose can help and will draw water to your bowel making stools softer.
As for the blood - the blood is coming because you have the fissures. Treat the fissures and in turn the blood should lessen. So diet, get the right treatment, stop pushing, take care of yourself etc and that is all you can do at the moment to stop bleeding. If you still have bleeding after this then you can always go back to your doc, though I know that if you are anxious this is not easy for you - but if it makes you feel better there are LOADS of people on here who are having the same experiences as you.
Many say on here sitz baths (short warm salty baths) help them though I am yet to try (just doesn't go with my lifestyle/work etc) but many say they are good to sooth soreness and relax muscles down there. Maybe you could try them after a BM.
Hope this helps you

very true

sounds like a plan to me! How long exactly does it take to completely cure yourself from AF's?
Cut out things like heavy carbs, bread, pasta, dough, potatoes for a while and instead have some wholemeal stuff in moderation

wow thats basically all i eat haha!!
Cut out fatty and fried foods (oh and spicy, ouch), red meat, sharp foods like nuts and crisps etc

spicey..!!?? oh god :(
Cut out the booze and fizzy pop!

D'oh Image
actually on that note... recently i have been drinking ALOT all at once (binge drinking) would this explain why this has all gotten so much worse recently??
- Rectogesic ( a cream from the doc that is applied twice a day just inside your bum ) has been helpful though have had headaches so am now trying something similar called diltiazem. Maybe you could ask your GP about these, maybe this is an option for you if you are concerned?

Headaches??
Stool softener such as Movicol or Lactulose can help and will draw water to your bowel making stools softer.

that sounds good where can i get these from?

talking to you is easing my mind alot you have no idea how much you have settled me down so thank you. Your right i need to treat this though from what i can tell they are pretty persistant and hard to treat???
p.s I rushed my BM's for the last 25 years so don't worry it's not just you who is learning to sit for a bit!

indeed! though my BM's are fairly fast anyway they dont mess about or maybe thats just me doing it without realising...?

iv been given scheriproct suppositories for this... this sounds like something for hemroids too not fissures??
What is it used for?
Short-term relief (5 to 7 days) from the symptoms of piles (haemorrhoids) and anal itching.

great....
can anyone advise if i should use this or not?
also, im abit better today i had a BM i took my time went very slow and there was not a single bit of blood AT ALL not in the bowl not on the tissue not on the stool so that has made me feel alot better
i did had some internal pain though when i passed the stool and my anus is sore inside now so its definetly the fissures and piles that are making this happen isnt it
god what a number of days iv had Image
