Oh Andy, I'm so sorry! Well, I saw the private guy and he said he didn't expect to see me again but if I needed to I could go back. In the last couple of weeks things have improved in the 'fissure department'. I still have the odd twinge every now and again, but I am off the painkillers and haven't used rectogesic for 5 days and things seem ok. Last time I tried to stop this it was horrendous so fingers crossed. I have almost stopped the lactulose and am only on movicol now (which I think it would be a good idea to continue, my doctor said its pretty harmless really). I am going through patch tests in a few weeks time to sort my skin problem, if it comes back negative I am on some long term medication to relieve pain. My only major problem now is pain between my bum cheeks at the top by my coccyx, the doc keeps saying theres nothing there but it really hurts at times. Mind you that has improved a bit. I am going back about that after the patch tests as I will need to see him anyway. You have to be persistent don't you, I've learnt that! I'm not giving up and living with it just yet. Overall things are much better though, even went on a day out yesterday and only had minor twinges.
I'm so sorry to say this as you're suffering, it must be so lowering to still be like you are. Thats unusual that the surgery hasn't worked, but sometimes people do have to have the operation again so don't lose heart. Take it a day at a time and focus on Nov 12th first. Then I'd put a time limit. If you don't get any help on the 12th, say to yourself you'll at least go and get an opinion from a different CRS privately. You'll at least get the time then to talk things through, having half an hour makes all the difference rather than the rushed 10 mins you get on the NHS!! I know how you must be feeling as I have felt like you (obviously) but don't lose heart. Keep positive, the person on the 12th may be the person who can sort the problem. If they can't, theres a reason for that and its because you're then meant to meet someone else who can who'll be better. I'm not on here as much lately as not too much to report but I will pop in to see how you get on at your next consultation. Keep updating, you know where I am :)

I had my second opinion on the 12th. he basically said he wouldnt operate on me, as ive already had the surgery and the risk would be high. he seemed to be against surgery full stop though, saying he only does it once or twice a year if the muscle is strong enough to take it.
So his plan is to carry out two tests on me. today i had a mammotry which tests the pressure. mine showed that my sphincter is extremely tight, which to me just shows my surgery clearly wasnt done properly!
the next step is to carry out an ultrasound to properly see the state of my muscle, and i guess let them know if i am a candidate for surgery again or not.
Its all very slow though, 5 weeks till ultrasound. god knows how long to actualy get treatment.
And as he doesnt like the surgery, im guessing he ll go for botox which i have little faith in, so feeling abit hopeless about getting this thing healed to be honest.
still tearing regularly, last week was one of the worst weeks ive had.
How are you sue? whats your next step?

Hi, andy -
I feel for you, I truly do. I had a LIS and fissurectomy 10 months ago, and I thought I had finally healed, up until last week. I've been so sore and miserable - and I know something's not right down there - I'll see my CRS tomorrow.
It is so, sooooo discouraging and awful to think that surgery might not have worked or that something else has gone wrong. You said "hopeless" - and that's how it feels, when a person has already gone through surgery and doesn't know what else to do.
My CRS (CRS #3 for me) who did my surgery is a very highly-regarded doctor - and I don't know, yet, what my problem is - and I won't know until tomorrow - but I'm not seeing the same CRS. CRS #3 didn't give me much, if any, aftercare - and then he left for three months (military duty) - and when he came back, he said that the post-op tag area (it's kind of a stretched area with a tag) is my anatomy! Unbelievable, huh?
CRS #4 seems to know his stuff, but I have no idea what he'll say to me tomorrow. I only hope I have hope, if that makes any sense.
This whole thing has been very tough to get past - and I'm not even past it . . . again, I'm so sorry you're having a rough time. I know exactly how that feels.

Hi Andy, I am so sorry to hear that you're having problems. Don't lose heart, look at it positively in that you are awaiting tests and are in the NHS system. I had my patch tests last week and they discovered I am allergic to Colophonium and Propyl Gallate - neither of these things solve my skin problem!!!! I had to have 207 metal disks taped to my back for 3 days, then 2 days of tape across my back. But it was necessary to eliminate that side of things. Been back to my GP tonight and he agreed to give me amitriptyline which should hopefully help with the skin complaint. It is an antidepressant drug but my doctor said it is not prescribed for depression anymore but for neuropathic pain. I then asked if it would help with the pain on my coccyx. He did a thorough examination of my anal area, said the fissures have gone/healed and I only have a slight split up the back where it is sore. He said no sign of a pilonidal sinus, abscess or fistula and that all is clear. He believes all the tissue and muscles have become hypersensitive and there is some spasm around the entire area so hopes that amitriptyline will help with this too. I am on the lowest does (10mg per day) and it takes about 6-8 weeks to work completely so its a waiting game now.
Can't remember when I last messaged you but I had the norovirus over half term which set me back fissure wise but it looks like it has all healed over. I trust the GP I am with now, he referred me to the best specialist privately and has referred me for the patch testing without question :D Has restored my faith in GPs to be honest, think if there was anything major or problems he would have referred me straight away.
Can you refuse the botox? I must admit I don't think I would go through that again. Can you see a different CRS? Had any thoughts as to whether to go for a private consultation? I would stick with this guy to get the tests done as its more info for if you see someone else. Get the ultrasound done then really push this guy - I would question why your sphincter muscle is still so tight when you have had the operation. Don't settle for anything less, you deserve to feel better and be pain free. I haven't given up with my skin problem and even though there is no definite answer I now feel they can look at making my quality of life better and my soreness easier. Are you managing to get on ok at work? I will check in to see how you are getting on :) Easy to say I know but keep positive and looking for the answers, if not for a cure then at least some relief. Fingers crossed for you Image
