keeping it clean after surgery

Postby happyass » 05 Jan 2007, 07:21

how do you keep your fissurectomy / fistulotomy clean post-surgery?
it seems that you have this open wound back there, when you eliminate from BM, isn't there a high possibility that these open wounds are definitely going to get some fecal matter in them?
i am sure that it's so tender back there post surgery that you don't even wan to stick your finger back there to rinse off the feces!!!!!!
how do you keep it clean after surgery?

My instructions were to have a hot/warm bath after each BM. Last few days I've been waiting to use my mom's hot tub, which has jets that I use to massage my tender spot!!! It's undoubtedly cleaning things fairly well, but inside....(?)
Obviously the body handles the interior aspect, as none of us has had an "infected" fissure to begin with, if you see what I mean. I wouldn't fret the incision/cleanliness thing too much. Millions of years of evolution have probably taken care of that.

Yah i agree.. I had salt baths after each BM and inbetween - always dried off thouroughly.
Hugh is right, the body is one smart thing.. it should (providing your immune system is up and running ok) clean andy germs and fight off any infections around the site.
I also used unscented babywipes when going for a BM rather than toilet paper.

u can also use a shower head to clean up the area after a bowel movement. Just make sure that the shower head is set to a stream that is not too strong.
