Is fissure at 12 o'clock position common?

Postby delasama » 19 Feb 2013, 20:28

I got what I think is a fissure since I had a big bm at thanksgiving.i finally looked down there today with a mirror and looks like its at top of anus opening. Looks like kind of a tear that disappears into anus with almost a small raw skin tag at end of it at 12oclock position. Is it normal to get one at 12 o'clock position? I was scared to death and excited at same time because I see a crs in two weeks and at least he might be able to see it without colonoscopy!

Yes, according to what I've read. 12 o'clock is the 2nd most common position and does not tend to indicate further problems.

coconut is right on.
By the way, a colonoscopy is not needed to see a fissure. A colonoscopy can be performed if the doctor suspects something like Crohn's disease is causing the fissure, or if a screening colonoscopy has never been done and a physician feels a colorectal screening for colon cancer would be a good idea. Fissures can be visualized either by simple inspection (if close enough to the opening of the anus) or by inspection using an anoscope (with or without sedation) that will allow a physician to visualize a fissure further up inside the anus.
