I had hard monster poop about 3months ago and ever since then I starter having painful bm.after a month or two I had bloody stool followed by killer spasms. went to doc and he stuck his finger in there to check for hems and said its probably a fissure.i haven't had blood or killer spasms since I started miralax about a month ago. I still haven't been able to sit though...I looked down there with mirror last month and at top of butt (towards my spine) I saw what looked like a beginning of a skin tag at end of a fissure that looked raw and red. I looked again today after being on miralax for a month and didn't see any raw skin although skin tag thing looked kinda whitish and my butt hole looks tight and smaller than ever.
I'm starting this thread because I finally see a crs tomorrow morning.
I'm supposed to do an enema before I go and I don't even know if I will be able to get it in my butt lol.i will put an update on here tomorrow after I see crs. Wish me luck! And thank you all for educating me on fissures up to this point

delasama thanks for opening this thread to follow up your treatment and results.
Yes when fissures are chronic the do not look pretty down there, is nice that you can not see the irritated area, but just the tag.
As for the enema just put as much Vaseline as you can before even trying to get in, be careful with it, you don't want to make anything in there worst.
It seems that your CRS is going all out to inspect the fissure, so be prepare for some discomfort and take some painkiller just in case.

It's 6 am. Slept three hours. Couldn't sleep, kept thinking about today. Morning bm went ok. Tried fleet enema and now my butt hurts. Couldn't even get the thing in there. I will tell crs that I tried lol. Gonna eat some quinoa with apple sauce and cinnamon. Not going to take miralax this morning, because I don't want to have to poop while at crs.i will be leaving in thirty minutes for crs.i will post an update when I get home in a few hours .i hope he doesn't hurt my little arse!

I saw crs today.he was gentle.he pulled my cheeks open just enough to confirm the skin tag at end of fissure.i was nervous about him being back there and on top of that he had his assistant looking and a third guy that was in training lol.three dudes staring in my ass lol. He said yep tipical spot for a fissure and the skin tag is from the fissure. I have been getting better since I started miralax a few weeks ago and started squatting and jumping in shower instead of wiping with toilet paper. I asked for nifedipine and he said he hasn't had much success with giving creams for fissures and creams have side effects that are bad for fissures. I asked him if he had done lis and he said he has done everything from lis to colon removal...he said surgery can heal people, but it has side effects and wont heal fissure any better than miralax.he gave me his number incase it isnt better in a few months with miralax.he said with soft fiber diet and miralax that it should heal in like three or four months. He said not to use baby wipes or toilet paper unless I wet toilet paper first. I asked him if its bad for fissure to sit a lot, because it hurts to sit and he said it won't make it worse by sitting. He said it hurts to sit because muscle spasms around fissure.he said if I stop the miralax then fissure could come back even after it heals. He said miralax forever and it will heal over time.i also asked if my mouth wash or tooth paste could slow the healing and he said not unless you drink it.it does look a lot better than last month before I started miralax. He said I don't need Metamucil unless miralax gives me diarrhea.he said take miralax morning and night no matter what.he said since I'm slowly healing with the miralax I could ease back into a job even if it still hurts. I told him I'm a jet mechanic and there is no easing anything lol. If I'm not busting my butt then my boss is busting my butt. Which neither sounds good for my butt! I'm going to visit my family in Maine for a few weeks soon and take it easy and take miralax religiously for a few months and see how it goes.i will still be on this forum everyday until I heal then hopefully I can post a success story some day.i did tell crs that I only have six months left of health insurance to get this fissure gone. He said miralax and diet and babying your butt forever.i was surprised he wouldn't give me a cream when I asked. Especially for a crs that says surgery is a last resort.im kinda glad I don't have to use a cream and that its a little better after my daily routine I've been doing for a few weeks now.i just hope it keeps getting better. It just sucks because it takes so much patience. It's not like I can tell if its better day by day. It's more like wait and see how pain is after each month.well it's been almost a month on miralax and my daily butt routine and its a little better. Hopefully it will be even better in another month! It was kinda funny how I paid hundreds of dollars for referrals and crs appointment and then he looked at my butt then he described exactly what I saw in mirror at home . I do feel better now that a crs looked though. He also gave me list of foods to eat.im gonna go fix some mushy food and do some miralax shots to celebrate my minor improvement ...

Personally, I think you should get a second opinion from a different CRS - fast. Based on published double-blind medical studies I have read and similar information given to me by my doctors and medical professionals, your CRS seems to have given you lots of misinformation (just my opinion).

Delasama if I was you I will be a littler bit skeptical about you doctor.
I have one with over 30 years of experience that doesn't believe on skin tag removal, he also doesn't believe on botox and creams if they don't work in the beginning they are a failure and he believe surgery works for chronic fissures.
Now if you are comfortable with what the CRS told you then by any means keep doing what you are doing and if is working why change it.
For what I have been reading and my experience, fissures either heal fast or they just linger for years on and off, without surgery.
You have spend so much money already on doctors but he didn't told you anything that you could no have found within this forums posts.

I have to agree with thisfissurecankissmybutt. Gosh, all the waiting you did to see this guy.
I've seen three top specialists for fissures, and while none of them feels surgery is an option for me because of other health problems I have, that is not the general consensus when it comes to surgery. Further, there is no reason not to try a topical like nifedipine, which every CRS I've ever talked to and heard of nowadays recommends at least giving a try. Botox is another option as well. Topical medications give you anywhere from a 50% to 65% increased chance of healing without surgery, so there is no reason not to start with that.
If you can do it, I too would suggest a second opinion, and while you're at it, since your insurance is running out, you might want to get an appointment with a third one as well. You wouldn't necessarily have to keep both appointments, but it's better to have them on the books in case you run into something similar to what you did today.
