Botox

Postby RichLen4 » 06 Mar 2013, 15:33

Hi All. I was on Nifedipine for 5 months and though it helped significantly to the point where some days I felt 100% normal I'd always have a set-back and the fissure would open up again. Sometimes I'd have diarrhea, an orgasm, spicy food, a long jog, etc. Nifedipine never seemed to close the deal. MY CRS wants to do Botox injections. He's had positive experiences to the point he doesn't really do LIS any longer. He says he sees cures in 80-85% and if they aren't cured he goes back gives more shots and that usually does it. Yet, I read many horror stories on these and other forums or that Botox doesn't work. I'm tending to think that maybe once people are cured they don't return to forums, yet those who have problems stay with the forums to sort them out, so that's why the negative comments. Can someone tell me their POSITIVE experience with Botox? From getting the injection (type of anesthesia used) to pain afterwards and when you started noticing that it was working and when you felt you were cured? I dont want to do Botox to only have to go do LIS after--I only want to be miserable once. It's been 2.5 years with this fissure and I want it to end. Thanks in advance.

Hi Richlen, I would like to hear good success stories too?!
I go in to have Botox in 4 weeks time. I am very skeptical that it will work, I have been having major Fissure issues now for 8 months.... Any longer if it doesn't work will finish me off....
My CRS said 50-50 then another CRS said higher percentage. Think it depends on the volume and area injected?! Image

Hi, botox is a great option for an acute fissure. But if you have a chronic fissure LIS is usually better. While you may heal the fissure for a short time, if you're muscle tends to stay tight you're more likely to tear again...

How do they do the Botox? Are you asleep for it? Is it painful?

Hi, Had Botox the day before yesterday. In Australia. I went in to a hospital for the day. I had sedation and cant remember any of it. 2 days on and there is no pain, I am not experiencing any spasms. The sphincter feels much looser than before. I have had 2 normal soft BMs since with no discomfort. I had half of a colonoscopy procedure and it has not damaged my anus. it cost $300 for the botox which is not covered by health benefits. The rest was covered by my hospital benefits fund. I hope that this will give my fissure enough time to heal and if not I would be prepared to have a second dose before LIS. I have healed before about 5 years ago but I didnt realise I had a fissure at the time. I now realise I formed a sentinal tag then which I thought was a haemorrhoid. I will continue to have Movicol every morning, baths after BMs, lots of water and my current improved diet. Fingers crossed. If the spasms are what are preventing your healing then Botox migth help. I have to say I am warming to the idea of Botox and will be discussing it in full with the CRS at my appointment today... :)
