Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Postby AdoreDance » 03 Dec 2012, 21:14

Hi Friends;
I have been dealing with anal fissures on and off for the past two years and am in the midst of a bout. I am wondering if anyone else has tried pelvic floor physiotherapy. I have had two treatments in the last week. The physio says that I have a lot of tension (big surprise!) She is working to release the muscles from the inside - in this case vaginally, since direct manipulation of the muscles at this time would be painful. It sounds in theory like it should help, and seems to have provided some temporary relief from the spasms. Has anyone tried this over a long term?

Hi AdoreDance,
I am having pelvic floor treatment here in the uk.
My treatment involves using a pelvitone machine that has a probe that you insert into the vagina, as far up as you can, and it passes a small electric current through it to give the muscles you have no controll over a good work out.
I have been doing this every day for 20 mins since June. I think it has made a real difference in that I never feel I have to strain when I have a bm anymore, the muscles seem to be much stronger. I used to have to get in all sorts of wired and wonderful positions to open my bowels before.
Hope this info helps.

I know this post is old, but a CRS suggested this to me too along with anal manometry testing. Has it still been helping the 2 of you?
