Delayed pain and spasm

Postby bgd » 03 May 2013, 11:47

Hi everyone!
Can anyone explain the mechanism behind delayed spasm? I'm not getting significant pain during BM. I'm also pain free after BM. I'm 2h past BM and only now can start feeling the burn. It usually gets bad 4h after BM and lasts another 3-4h. So if there is no initial pain, what triggers the spasm? Kind of a chicken and egg question.
Thanks

BGD,
I'd love to see some answers to this one too!
When my fissure was really painful, my BM's weren't or immediately after, but I could literally time the pain build up! Half an hour after the BM, the burning would kick in, build up and last for 3 - 4 hrs too and then start to calm again. I never understood this either because from what I've read a lot of people get all the pain during the BM, immediately after & afterwards for a few hours too...... Image

Hi bgd
I feel exactly the same as you. I honestly don't know why it works like that. What I have noticed in my case is if I don't push at all when having a bowel movement, the pain after is almost 0. But if I push 2h after the BM I'm in pain. Is like the muscle suffers more if I push. So when I go, I try take a deep breath with my stomach (several if I have time) and try to relax.
My goal is to have a pain free BM. Someday... I know my pain free BM is coming :D
Sphincter gurus, please come to us and explain!

Same here, I learned that lesson the hard way, no push during BM cause it just ruptures the fissure.
Yesterday I got some crazy delay of 7 hours plus. I actually fell asleep with high hopes, thinking that spasm has left the building. Only to wake up in middle of the night with that pulling sensation, not so severe, but enough to send me back to the bath tub, so I can relax and go back to sleep.
This kind of delay is actually worse, cause it's gonna make both my days and nights miserable.

I too have no idea why there is a delay. My delay is only half an hour or so though... But it's very puzzling all the same.
Hopefully someone in the know will have the answer for us!!

same here. but I have noticed few additional things that month back I used to start feeling burning n itching feeling right after bm but then the feeling started to go down in the later hours like around 2 3 pm till 7 to 8 pm. I have my theory about it. n that is when fissures open during a bm bacteria may get trapped into to the tear n then it takes some time to multiply themselves. when the start acting in our flesh our immune system comes to work causing inflammation n flushing of body fluid at the site to fight with bacteria thus we start feeling that burning n itching. n when the war is over n our immune system has won symptoms start retrieving.
I don't know i m right or wrong but I think this is the case. on more thing that I noticed is that when my fissure was not that deep n not bleeding during bm it started itching n burning right after bm but when it started getting deeper n bleeding as the days passed on the timing if burning n itching also delayed.
I think no Dr can explain it cz they themselve r nit suffering its we who r suffering they just have bookish knowledge n not personal experience.

Could be it. I was wondering, is it safe then to wash the fissure site inside the rectum? Possibly with an enema? Or would it cause more irritation?

tap water is also not safe to flush fissure with it as it may contain bacteria or chlorine that may cause further irritation. someone suggested using antibacterial rectal cream which can help lowering bacteria ,,, like polyfax.but again it should b consulted with Dr.

Mine were originally like that, but I tied the pain to Peristalsis. That's when you're intestines start pumping and churning. Bodily rhythm, time of day, and whether or not you eat, affect that the most.
Some people spasm for purely psychological reasons, but mine are like clock work when it comes to eating. Before my second fissure, I didn't even HAVE pain post BM. The BM hurt sometimes, sometimes not. But the spasms after were always tied to eating my biggest meal of the day. Additionally, if I had 'more in me' to come out, now pumped into the colon post-eating, due to the pressure it put on the now tender area, I had the most pain.
