Hi guys,
Well, here I am, lying in my hospital bed, 2 days post Lateral Sphincterotomy and fistula lay-open surgery.
According to my doctor, everything looked pretty good down there, my fistula looked like it was healing well, and very clear of infection. My fissure had definitely torn more, which was the cause of all my pain, so the sphincterotomy should hopefully rectify the pain situation. He said he only took out as little muscles as he could afford to, saying that if we need to take more, we can go back in and take more. He is trying to save me from fecal incontinence.
I had my first post-op bowel movement last night. It didn't hurt too much coming out, although I was quite constipated, so the movements were quite hard, and very large to pass. Have had a high pain score since last night, but I didn't suffer the same excruciating muscle spasms from the fissure as I used to... which could be a good sign?
It's early days yet, so I think it will take a few weeks for things to settle down in order to see what the result is like and whether the pain will settle down.
Otherwise, being in private hospital, the nurses are lovely, the food is great (gluten free snacks too!), and the daytime television is awful, as usual :)
I hope everybody is feeling well today. Thinking of you all!
