New to the group.. few quick questions

Postby MONI07 » 16 Jun 2013, 06:15

I am a 25 yr old female. I have had Stomach and digestive issues since January. I've had all sorts of test, had all my organs scanned, blood tests, tested for gluten allergies, had a colonoscopy in April, they have found nothing. 3 weeks ago I had a tiny bit of blood on the paper after a BM and I went to the dr and they said it must be a fissure, they couldn't see anything but judging by the amount of blood they said it would probably only be small. I've been on stool softener as I have constipation from what they think is IBS. I've gone gluten free and try not to eat any processed foods. I do have regular bowel movements.
The thing is it's been 3 weeks and while it was bleeding all the time for the first 10 days, it then stopped for a while, then I had 1 day of slight bleeding then it stopped for 5 days, then today had a tiny bit more bleeding. Should it have stopped totally by now or is it normal to flare up slightly. The amount of blood is less and less, it's not as painful as it was either. Does this sound normal? I suffer anxiety and I panic about it all the time.  I have never had this before and I don't know how long it takes to heal or whats normal or whats not. Also I have noticed the itchy uncomfortable feeling is quite bad especially at night after a busy day.

Hello MONI07,
So sorry that you are having these problems.I too have IBS and Anal Fissures from Constipation. My doctor couldn't really see my Fissures either, you will need to get a CRS to have a look, as they know what they are looking for.I too am wheat Free, Gluten free and lactose Free. I eat the recommended Fruits and Veg following the FODMAP plan. This has had a 75% Success rate with IBS.I have had major improvement with the IBS symptoms since following this for 2 months. Now i have to re-introduce to pinpoint my triggers, which will enable me to avoid all of the culprits in the future.I feel that wheat and Gluten are my enemy, and i would be in hell for days if eating any white foods or breads, pastas etc... I asked to be referred to a Dietician to try and sort out my diet, and constipation issues, in order to try and heal the Fissures.
When my pain was horrendous prior to Botox, (I tried creams etc first to heal them) i was anxious and depressed. This lead to me taking Medication for the constant stress and anxiety, which has really helped me.Stress and anxiety can just make the whole healing process harder.I only bled a few times with the fissures, i think that everyone is different when it comes to this.I think that after 3 months when the Fissure becomes chronic, it is harder to have healing.Unfortunately, like many others on here, i was told by my Doctor that it was Hemorrhoids causing the problems, so this delayed me treating the Fissures quickly.I would stay on the stool softener, and also have you tried any other treatments ie: Anal Fissure creams?

I was on something but it caused chronic headaches. I'm also suffering a LOT of anxiety because i'm losing weight and can't seem to bulk up. I was overweight before and i'm far from being underweight but the drs are freaking me out a little.

I think I get really stressed out that the drs have missed something really serious and it's not really IBS. I guess that stress and anxiety is probably triggering off everything else.

Colo Rectal Surgeon. Have you seen a surgeon who specialises in Fissures? I can relate to this totally. I too thought i had something seriously wrong. I only settled down after the Examination under anesthetic and when the CRS told me it was only Hemorrhoids and Fissures causing the problems. I was diagnosed with IBS 10 yrs ago. Sound's like you have used Rectogesic, which causes headaches.I used it for 8 weeks, the headaches for me weren't half as bad as the Fissure pain...

Nope no colorectal surgeon here.. all we have is general GPs. We have to travel extensively to get to anything else.
