Cauterize edges of fissure

Postby stupidanalfissure » 26 Jun 2013, 08:29

Hello I will be going to my 4th CRS appointment this Friday and at the last appointment he mentioned cauterizing the edges of the fissure from what I believe is scar tissue. Has anyone had this done?
He said it would aid in the healing process, Since I have had this for 6 months I'm not sure if anything will.
He also mentioned that its not uncommon to be able to go back to work a few days after LIS.

Yes he is correct it is not at all uncommon to be able to go to work a few days after LIS! I am 3 days post LIS and already I am able to walk normally, sit normally, and even run for short distances. On my second day I was able to sit in the car and go grocery shopping for a while. :)
I can't help you with the cauterization thing, but I wish you all the best!

About 5-6 months. :) I didn't really have any other options. Nitro/Diltiazem cream and so on are not available in my country and the doctor did not advise botox. After all the pain I felt it was my only choice so I just went for it.
Honestly though, post LIS my pain only lasted about a day. Next day I was off the painkillers. Of course it will vary on a case to case basis, but for me it's definitely on of the best decisions I've ever made. Note I don't have any other underlying conditions, so I really think that the LIS will 'fix' me.

I had cauterization done on a large 1.5cm fissure. I think the CRS has done all the fissure, not only the edges. After the cauterization, it got much worse before it could get better. Luckily I had botox done about the same time, but those 2 weeks until it kicked in were the worse in my life. Sorry, don't mean to scare you off. That being said, my CRS insisted that there was no chance to heal a chronic fissure without removing the scar tissue on the edges.
In your case, if cauterization is combined with LIS, you shouldn't have pain like I had, since LIS will prevent the spasm.
