Killer Pain In Canada

Postby CanadaHell » 19 Oct 2013, 11:42

Cannot post on phone with internet, Phone too cheap with basic net. Your website will not allow me to register, have to travel in miserable wiggling pain to public library to register and post. Please fix this problem, make site available to everyone!!

My post dissapeared went I went back to make corrections. Too much misery to rewrite it all again. Newbie here.. 3 weeks sufferer now. Using cream Nifidipine and Lidocaine , metamucil and no stool softner. Tried Prunce Juice gave me bad runs!! Cleaned me out good though!!

9 hrs waiting and riggiling in pain at the Emerg the other day no results. Cream reapplied and a pain killer shot in the arm and sent home. The Health Care System in Canada sucks it may be free but it sucks!!. Doctors don't care they are all overworked and dont care. Period. I am a very tall 6'6"52 year old male. I was crying my eyes out at emerg the other day and riggiling with spasms. All they did was shoved me in a room and made me wait another two hrs and ignored me.

Eat all bran, oatmeal and banana everyday. and 12 grain breads. Fibre. Was making my own bran muffins as I hate raisins, all store bought bran muffins have raisins in them. Doc told me to cut back as breads slow system down.

Went to procto doc last week, a joke, ignored me after finger insertion and hid in his office and wouldn't answer my questions. Some specialist he was. Doc Barrin in Ottawa, avoid him. Tried calling the office back, they seem to screen all the calls now and dont respond. Period!

Take daily salt baths(reg salt not epsom) after each BM, helps, keep running the water hotter. Sit on heating pad and frozen water bottle. Heating pad burned out though. NOT wealthy person cannot afford to eat properly or buy many things mentioned here in other posts. Live on disability in Community Housing. Cannot afford good expensive foods.

What to do.. You need "courage as You get Older"

Thanks

I am on basically the same regimen as you, but I also take Miralax and the stool softeners, which help quite a bit.
What is your water intake like? With the whole grains (breads, carbs), it is usually insoluble fiber, which moves slower and builds up the stools compared to soluble fiber (a lot of fruit and veggies), which move the stools through much faster and in my opinion, keep them a bit softer. I also cut back on my fiber supplement some, as that was giving me larger, hard to pass stools. I only take a tablespoon a day now.

Hope this helps some and that you get some relief!

Well its Monday night and what a horrible weekend I had, excrutiating brutal pain galore. I am the cleanest guy in Canada 10 sitz baths a day. The spasms now are waking me up in the night. Too much water is also making me pee buckets at night, so much for sleep. I am now on a daily regiment of Metamucil and Senekot, yes bad constipation after a bought of the runs from two glasses of prune juice.Imodium then miserable constipation. My bowels are all messed up. The good news today is I just left my family Doctor who has referred me to another surgeon, hopefully not a 'quack' like the last one.

He has given me "new scripts" for the following meds (dont know what is and what is not covered under my Provincial Drug plan yet though, will find out when I go to the pharmacist). For the muscle spasms; BUSCOPAN, DICETEL, Nitrol with Vaseline cream, sorta mixture like my Nifidipine and Lidocaine. no idea what the side effects are either? Also taking "one" teaspoon of Metimucul at night with two glasses of water and Senekot. My poor bowels are in an uproar. The spasms give me continuos "suicidal thoughts", the pain lasts for up to an hour and subside to a dull continuos throbbing. Miserable, horrible, brutal frigging pain. 1200 mg of Advil to ease the pain (rough on my stomach though) I have IBS, but better than taking Tylenol 3 ---do not want more constipation!! Lovely thoughts!!

Thanks for the responses, looking forward to more at home on phone. Very, very tired tonight, pray I can sleep tonight??Also got a stool softner script, though mixed reviews on them, they make 'sludge" and no "push" is what I have heard. Wasted $18 on the wrong stuff one pharmacist gave me, cant take it back used 1 screwcap full..waste of friggin' money!!! Could have bought FOOD instead!!! 10 days till Government Check day. More and more drugs not covered, even after appeals. Nifidipine and Lidocaine NOT COVERED after appeal..Frustrating!!!

Sorry fellow Canuck for going through all of this :( I hope you have some luck with the internet on your phone at home, as leaving home whilst in this pain is not nice at all. Keep using what the doctor has given you, and watching what you eat. Aim for plenty of fruits and vegetables, but stay away from apples! Try some deep relaxation techniques - I like to visualise my fissure healing - mind over matter. I suffer just like u, first hour after BM's is the worst, and then it moves to gentle throbbing and finally just very sore. None if it is nice! G'luck and hope you get some sleep!

For me, it takes a day or two for the polythene glycol? (Miralax) to start working. If you only used it once, I would reconsider trying it again. I actually hated it so much at first, after a few days of using it, that I told the CRS I wouldn't take it. Then, I realized that having less pain was better than the other side effects and went back on it again.

CanadaHell, you sound as though you are having a miserable time. I am so, so sorry.
I hope that with the right diet and stool softeners you will start to heal. It does take some experimenting. I tried a few things before I found what worked for me.

You are drinking lots of water - good! That is essential.
I'm sorry your heat pad burned out. Try sitting on your hot water bottle with very warm, nearly hot water, it will help relax the spasms, and you won't have to spend so much time in the bath. Oatmeal is great - nice soluble fibre. I like to grate an apple into my oatmeal, and personally I would stay away from bananas! Nothing like contradictory advice to help you, eh?

I looked up your medications. Imodium tightens the anal sphincter, which sounds like a really bad idea for an anal fissure! Your sphincter needs to relax. As you know, the buscopan and dicetel are IBS medications. Is the nitrol with vaseline, the same as nitroglycerine? If so, it could really help you, but can give you headaches. Not everyone gets headaches though; I hope you don't. I don't think you should use the nifedipine AND nitroglycerol though - please check with your doc. Mine told me NOT to use them both. I found nifedipine to be ineffective, and NG to be helpful. I hope one of them works for you.

There are some people here who have IBS as well as anal fissure, so do a search for IBS and read what they have to say. It's hard enough to get your diet right for soft stools without the complication of IBS, so you need some really good advice.

Hang in there, Canada. This is awful, but keep trying, keep experimenting with your diet and meds. It can take a long, long time, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Take notes of your diet, your BMs, your pain, and see what works and what doesn't. You can keep a diary here - several people do. But if you have trouble accessing the internet, at least keep a paper diary.
Take care!
:smilyhug:
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

x2 on staying away from bananas. I heard the potassium in them can keep you plugged up.

I eat an apple every day and haven't noticed any issues, but I've heard they can constipate you too. I think it varies from person to person.

Have you tried mixing in an Advil PM or 2 when you take it in the evening? Sometimes it's the only thing that can keep me asleep at night.

Good luck! I'm a tall guy too and know what you're going through.
