What cereal do you eat?

Postby sugarspice » 16 Nov 2013, 05:01

Hi AF buddies,

What cereal do you find is best for you? Oats give me constipation so are a big 'no no', I am trying to avoid bran type cereals as don't want too much soluble fibre, but not quite sure what that leaves?

I don't like Sugar Puffs unfortunately and I believe this is barley, which is a shame because barley has quite a lot of insoluble fibre.

Many thanks

Hi Sugar,
Although high in insoluble fibre, I eat Bran Flakes too and I don't have an issue with these as long as I chew them well. I eat them with a large dollop of bio-yogurt and fruit too.....lots of water & camomile tea with them and they are OK.
Weetabix are also great (are they oat-based I can't remember??) x

Sugarspice

Sugar puffs is made from wheat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Puffs

Yeah choosing these breakfast cereals can get confusing. Also you may
be confusing the insoluble with the soluble fiber as you say your trying to
avoid bran because of the soluble. But bran has a lot of insoluble and
remember its the insolube fiber that bulks us up too much if we are not
careful.

As for me.....

Always: 2min Quaker Oats / Shredded wheat / Granola / Mueslix
Sometimes: Wheaties / Crackling Oats / Raisin bran /
Never: Kelloggs frosted flakes or any other cereal with 1st or second
ingredient being sugar.

Just keep learning and comparing and safely experimenting sugerspice
and you will find the right balance for you.

Hi Buttastic,

The soluble was a typo, I saw it afterwards but was too lazy to correct it!

Mmm crackling oat bran sounds AMAZING, I looked it up and found out it was in America only. My husband even tried to get it from Amazon but they wanted to charge us £15 for delivery...OMG!

Looking in to Granola! Thank you :D
