Simply sitting on the toilet!

Postby Ever the Optimist » 29 Apr 2013, 15:23

Well, it just goes to show!......
I (thought) I felt the urge to have a BM this afternoon and went to the toilet as normal and positioned myself in my familiar squat (!)
Generally, I hop on and off the loo to get things over and done with asap and normally with no issues.
Today I was squatting there for a good while longer than I normally would ever ( I got engrossed in looking for "Where's Wally?" !!) and suddenly realised that actually nothing was coming out and maybe I didn't actually need a BM after all! I'm pretty confident I was not constipated or anything like that....
For the first time again in a few days, I actually feel sore now with aggravated hems from just being in that position for too long! and I didn't even expel!!
Just thought I'd share this to see if any one else has experienced this/ gets caught out by thinking they need a BM when they don't and to emphasise the fact that simply sitting/ squatting on the toilet for too long really is NOT good for you!! Image

It happens to me too... Or gas feels like i gotta go. Its so annoying. Its a symptom of irritable bowel syndrome too. Does squatting help? Or does that irritate you? I have tried squatting a couple times and it worked good but im worried if i do anything out of the ordinary i might hurt myself.

Yes, I totally understand you when you have a feeling to go, but there is nothing there, that is a spams in my case, I just discovered, because yesterday I took a anti-spasmodic called Buscopan (Doctor prescribed this 3 months ago for stomach cramps), and the sensation disappear.
I just wonder, why doctors don't prescribe anti-spasmodic for anal fissures, even if it has side effects (I guess that's why they don't), is better than surgery.
Try to sit in the toilet for a little while, if nothing comes out, stand up, and walk, drink a hot beverage, and try again later, don't sit for to long because that put pressure on the hemorrhoids.

Squatting too long can cause strain, but sitting will cause alot more strain... I love squatting. I start a job soon, so I'm going to have to take my shorts off at work to squat.

Question:
Like guiness says, the gas/pressure sensation is a symptom of IBS, Does that mean it could be IBS, or is this because of the fissure?

Thus is how i interpret the symptom of ibs when it feels like you have to go but dont....ibs causes abnormal pressures to build up and causes you to strain when you do t have to go therefore putting you at risk of a fissure. I think thats where i got mine..., bloating made me feel i got to go, and i would strain and very little or none at all would come out.

I think this symptom combined with others could lead to an ibs diagnosis. But irritation from the fissure can also produce this weird symptom.

Thank you guiness. I don't know if I also suffer from IBS. But I do know that anxiety plays an important role in all of these symptoms.
I have started to walk in the morning to see if that helps with the anxiety. Let see how it works. So far is been one week without bleeding.

Thanks for the feedback folks!
Yes, I have been diagnosed with IBS historically and I fear it's in full force at the moment because I'm getting this issue a lot and it's extremely annoying because that urge to go is there, but, if I do, it's very little or nothing at all - Also a lot of wind! Then there's the added pressure of not being able to strain in the slightest - I just don't go there! ...It's almost like I can't distinguish right now what a true urge to have a BM is and what isn't....
Anxiety and stress play a major role in IBS and I have far too much stress going on right now with work, so I can pin point the cause! Time for some relaxation techniques I think and exercise too. This always helps...Galamat (that pic is unbelievably cute!) I will be joining you on those morning walks!! and I also have Buscopan at hand, so will try giving this a shot short-term.
Squatting is great when I actually need to go and eliminates everything far more easily and naturally, so I wouldn't worry too much about that Guiness.
Thanks again all :)
